What Are The Best Dedicated IP VPN Providers in 2018?

NordVPN is your best bet among reliable Virtual Private Network (VPN) providers that offer their customers dedicated IP addresses. NordVPN supplies fast speeds, secure connections and value pricing.

  • Encrypted Connections

In addition to reliable, dedicated IP addresses, NordVPN also provides multi-platform and router support for a wide variety of devices. The provider offers PPTP, L2TP, SSTP, IKEv2 and OpenVPN encryption protocols to protect your internet connection from prying eyes.

What is a Dedicated IP VPN? Why Do You Need One?

Whenever you connect to your VPN provider of choice, your real IP address on the internet is replaced with one generated by the remote VPN server you connect to. This dynamic IP address can vary according to which VPN location you connect to.

If you select the same server each time, your VPN IP address will remain the same every time you connect. If you use your provider’s “auto-connect” feature, you may end up with a different IP address each time.

Any IP address you usually receive from your VPN provider is a shared IP address. This means that every user that is connected to that particular VPN server is receiving the same IP. This offers security benefits for the users, including increased protection against Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks and increased anonymity, as there’s no way to trace any particular online activity back to one user.

Many VPN providers also offer what they call Dedicated IPs as an add-on. If you subscribe to a Dedicated IP VPN server, you will receive a specified IP address that you alone will be using. You will not be sharing that address with anyone. While a subscription to a dedicated IP VPN will cost more than a regular VPN subscription, there are numerous advantages to using a dedicated IP.

Benefits Of Dedicated IP VPN

1

You Won’t Be Banned for Other Users’ Antics

Since you are not sharing the address with anyone else, you will never be banned from a website or services like Netflix because of the inappropriate antics of one of the other users who share your IP address.

2

Sites Will Never Block You Due to an Unrecognized IP Address

Some websites check your IP address when you log in. If the IP address seems to change quite often, they may temporarily disable your login until they can confirm it’s you. Sites such as PayPal, eBay, Google, and even sites run by your bank or credit card company will do this.

It’s for your own good, but it can be a hassle if you log in to sites like these on a regular basis. A Dedicated IP address will help avoid this, as you’ll be logging on from the same IP address each time.

3

You’re Able to Run a FTP or HTTP Server on Your Home Internet Connection

A dedicated IP allows you to run an FTP or web server on your computer, using the same IP address every time.

Plus, as VPN connections are encrypted, you have an added layer of security, and your Internet Service Provider (ISP) can’t tell what you’re doing, (Most ISPs ban the use of your home internet connection for file servers and web servers. Unless you pay extra, of course.)

In the interest of full disclosure, it should also be noted that there are also disadvantages to dedicated IPs compared to dynamic IPs. They include:

  • An additional fee, over and above what you already pay for VPN service
  • Less anonymity, as the dedicated IP identifies only one user: you
  • Increased vulnerability to DDoS attacks, also because you are the sole user of the IP address and may be easier to target

How to Choose the Best Dedicated IP VPN Provider

Users looking for a VPN provider to provide them with a dedicated IP address will want to keep a number of considerations in mind. In this section, I’ll explain what to look for, and why it’s important to make sure the VPN provider that you’re considering hits all of these points.

1

Make Sure the VPN Provider Offers Dedicated IPs

You might be surprised by how few VPN providers offer dedicated IP addresses as an add-on for their customers. Of my usual 10 suspects, only 3 offer dedicated IPs. If you can’t find any information about dedicated IP addresses on a prospective VPN provider’s website, ask one of their support agents about the feature.

In the table below, I’ve listed the VPN providers in alphabetical order. I have noted whether or not each provider offers dedicated IP addresses to their customers.

** VyprVPN offers a “VyprVPN Cloud” service which provides a static IP or dedicated IP address. However, the feature is not available with a normal VPN subscription.

2

Dedicated IP Global Server Coverage

When deciding which VPN provider to subscribe to for a dedicated IP address, make sure you know the locations around the globe where the provider offers dedicated IPs. Make sure the IPs are available in the country in which you will use them the most.

While all of the VPN services on this list offer dedicated IPs in the United States, options vary when it comes to other parts of the world.

A dedicated IP address does you no good if it doesn’t allow you to access the websites and online services you use every day. Also, make sure the provider offers a money-back guarantee or a free trial period. This will ensure you have options if the VPN provider can’t come through on their promises.

3

Connection Speeds

A fast and responsive VPN is always of importance. Just as you would expect your shared IP VPN to perform well, providing fast connection speeds and low ping times, it’s even more important to have a responsive connection when you’re using a dedicated IP.

Uses for a static IP include running an FTP, HTTP or database server, all of which require a responsive connection. You may also stream video from platforms like Netflix or Hulu, listen to music, or use your connection to sneak in a few hundred hours of first-person shooter online gaming action here and there.

In addition, a fast connection always comes in handy for online shopping, using shared documents or file sharing.

Multi-Platform Support

Make sure your dedicated IP VPN provider of choice offers support for all of the platforms you’ll be using your new IP with. At the very least, any provider you consider should feature apps or support for the Windows, macOS, iOS and Android platforms. Additional support, like support for Linux, or wireless routers, is a definite bonus.

Privacy

While how well a VPN service protects your privacy should be a top priority, many users fail to think about that when considering which provider to go with, as they get excited about connection speeds, global server coverage and other factors.

When I say “protect your privacy,” I’m not referring to the type of encryption a provider uses - I’m talking about whether they keep logs of your online activity, or if they protect your identity in other ways.

Ideally, a VPN service will be located in a privacy-friendly country, won’t keep logs of your online activities and will accept anonymous forms of payment, like Bitcoin, for their services.

I’ve ranked the VPN providers in the table below on a scale of 0 to 5, ranked according to their location, their logging policy, and whether or not they accept Bitcoin or other anonymous methods of payment.

Kill Switch

Most VPNs offer an automatic “kill switch” feature, designed to prevent your internet connection from being exposed to the prying eyes of hackers, ISPs and others. The feature disconnects your internet connection if your VPN-protected connection fails.

As this is a binary, “yes/no” type of question, I’ve ranked the providers alphabetically in the table below.

7

Other Factors to Consider

Price

The importance of the cost of a VPN subscription can vary from customer to customer. There are always those who believe that price is no object, while others need to watch their pennies. I’m of the school that believes any money you save on a VPN subscription can go towards the cost of a large screen HDTV.

It’s always a good idea to keep in mind the old saying that “you get what you pay for.” If you’re looking for a deal, be sure to consider what the provider supplies for your hard-earned money. Every VPN service around is in the business to make money, so if they offer a bargain price, make sure they aren’t cutting corners in any important categories.

Note: Most VPN providers do provide special deals on subscriptions from time to time, and this can significantly reduce your subscription costs. Users willing to subscribe for an extended period of time may find the savings are even greater. Visit the providers’ websites for current pricing and offers.

Customer Service

No one wants to think about the times when something goes wrong. But believe me when I say that problems will rear their ugly heads. When that happens, you’ll appreciate the importance of using a provider that boasts excellent, 24/7 customer support.

In the table below, I have ranked VPN providers according to the type and quality of their customer support options. Providers were rated according to what kinds of support they offer (live chat for example), the promptness of their replies to support questions and the quality of those answers.

Note: Phone support is not provided by any of the VPN providers listed below.

Buyer Beware

When searching for VPN providers that offer dedicated IP addresses, make sure any provider that you consider has the same definition of “dedicated IP address” that you do. While writing this article, I intended to include VyprVPN in the list. However, the company only offers dedicated IPs on their more expensive “VyprVPN for Business Cloud” accounts.

In addition, VyprVPN’s definition of a “dedicated IP address” wasn’t the same as other providers. While it was true you would be the only person on a particular IP address, the address would be different each time you reconnected to the service. This could pose a problem for users who could not stay connected to VyprVPN full-time, as they would lose some of the benefits of a static IP.

The Best VPNs for Dedicated IP Addresses

#1 - NordVPN

NordVPN Site Features

PROS

  • check
    Great Customer Service
  • check
    Fast Data Speeds
  • check
    Excellent Privacy Protections

CONS

  • Offers Dedicated IPs in Only 4 Countries

1

Dedicated IP Global Server Coverage

NordVPN offers dedicated IPs in the United States, Germany, United Kingdom and Netherlands. While only providing IPs in 4 countries, the 4 NordVPN has chosen to locate their servers in will likely provide you with enough flexibility to cover the main parts of the free world.

2

Connection Speed

NordVPN’s connection speeds are competitive. This provider boasts a consistent 90% or so of my usual ISP-only connection speeds. That’s enough speed for online gaming, streaming content or any other purpose I can think of.

3

Multi-Platform Support

NordVPN supplies apps for WIndows, macOS, iOS and Android devices. In addition, they provide setup information on how to use the service with WIndows Phone, Linux and Raspberry Pi devices, as well as DD-WRT-compatible routers.

4

Privacy

NordVPN’s base of operations is the privacy-friendly country of Panama. In addition to allowing ships to take a shortcut through their country, the government there also does not require VPN providers to keep logs of their customers’ activities.

The provider also follows a strict “no logs” policy, meaning they wouldn’t have anything to turn over even if the government or a content provider did come to call.

The provider also provides an additional layer of privacy protections by accepting the anonymous Bitcoin cryptocurrency as a payment option.

5

Price

In addition to NordVPN’s $69.00 base annual subscription fee, the provider charges an additional $70.00 per year for the dedicated IP, making the total annual fee for a dedicated IP address $139. This makes it the second-cheapest provider of dedicated IPs.

NordVPN offers a 30-day money-back guarantee.

6

Customer Service

NordVPN provides excellent customer support through an online support chat option, online trouble ticket submission form and a searchable knowledge base.

When I submitted support questions to both the online chat and the trouble ticket form, I received prompt and helpful replies. The knowledge base is also a valuable resource for those who don’t mind digging for answers on their own.

7

Verdict

NordVPN offers a reasonable number of dedicated IP locations. Their connection speeds are competitive, and their multi-platform support will meet the needs of the users of most devices.

#2 - PureVPN

PureVPN

PROS

  • check
Offers Dedicated IP Addresses in 8 Countries
  • check
    Good Speeds
  • check
Bargain Surcharge for Dedicated IP Address
  • check
    Great Privacy Protection

CONS

  • Highest-Priced Provider in the Top 3 List

1

Dedicated IP Global Server Coverage

PureVPN has dedicated IP servers located in Australia, Canada, Germany, Malta, the United Kingdom, the United States, Singapore, Hong Kong and the Netherlands.

2

Connection Speed

With connection speeds registering as around 83% of my usual ISP-provided speeds, PureVPN ranks in as the second-fastest VPN provider in my list. (Since the list is only a “top 3” list this go-round, I suppose you could argue that PureVPN is also the second-slowest in the list. Either way, the connection speeds should be up to whatever you throw at it.)

3

Multi-Platform Support

PureVPN provides apps for Windows, macOS, iOS and Android devices, as well as plugins for Google Chrome and Firefox browsers. The company also supports selected routers, including DD-WRT-compatible routers.

4

Privacy

This provider is based in Hong Kong, which is currently a privacy-friendly locale. While this could change at any time due to it being a Chinese possession, the country currently doesn’t have any laws requiring VPN providers to keep logs of any kind related to a customer’s online activities.

PureVPN also offers another layer of privacy protection by its willingness to accept the anonymous Bitcoin payment service as payment for a subscription.

5

Price

PureVPN’s $70.76 annual charge sounds a bit expensive, but there is a good chance that you can save some money by selecting this provider. PureVPN runs periodic sales, which brings their usual tariff down to a much more reasonable price. Check the provider’s website for their current pricing before making a decision.

Despite the high initial cost, the provider only charges an extra $1.99 per month for a static IP address, on top of the usual VPN subscription fees. This brings the grand total for one year of dedicated IP service to $94.64, making PureVPN your cheapest overall option from the providers in my list.

The company offers a 7-day money-back guarantee.

6

Customer Service

PureVPN’s customer support is less than optimal in my testing. The provider features live support chat, a trouble ticket submission form and a searchable knowledge base, matching many other providers. However, I submitted a trouble ticket via the form, and have yet to receive a reply. Hopefully, this was a fluke.

Online chat support was excellent, run by polite and well-informed agents who were quite helpful. The support library also proved to be a helpful support option for those users willing to dig for their own solutions.

7

Verdict

PureVPN offers a good number of dedicated IP server locations to choose from - some of the best in the industry. Their connection speeds should suffice for most VPN users, and their connection encryption options will do an excellent job of protecting your data while connected to your dedicated IP.

#3 - VPN Unlimited

VPN Unlimited

PROS

  • check
Dedicated IP Addresses in 7 Countries

CONS

  • Slowest Speeds in the Top 3 List
  • Most Expensive Provider of Dedicated IPs

1

Dedicated IP Global Server Coverage

VPN Unlimited offers static IP addresses in the following countries: Canada, Germany,  France, India, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States. This is a good variety of dedicated IP locations, providing a decent amount of flexibility for users looking to take advantage of a dedicated address.

2

Connection Speed

VPN Unlimited’s speed numbers come up lacking at 35%. This provider is close to the slowest of all providers I’ve reviewed, and is the absolute minimum acceptable speeds for many online activities. Considering this provider is the most expensive dedicated IP provider, I would recommend it only to those users who absolutely require either a French or Indian IP address.

3

Multi-Platform Support

VPN Unlimited supplies support for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Ubuntu and even Windows Phone. It also offers support for selected routers.

4

Privacy

VPN Unlimited provides good, basic privacy protection. While the U.S.-based VPN provider doesn’t keep any logs related to their customers’ online activities, such as where they go or what they download, they do keep logs about the total amount of web traffic for each session and session dates. They also store encrypted information about the number of connected devices for each account.

Bitcoin is available as a privacy-friendly method of payment for subscriptions.

5

Price

VPN Unlimited’s initial cost is the cheapest among the VPN services that offer static IPs to their customers. At $39.99 per year, the provider is a low-priced leader in the normal VPN industry. However, they charge an additional $12.50 per month (billed annually) in addition to the usual annual subscription price. This brings your annual fee to $189.99, making this the most expensive option among my dedicated IP VPN providers.

The provider offers a 7-day money-back guarantee.

6

Customer Service

VPN Unlimited’s customer service could stand a bit of sprucing up, but the support they do offer is satisfactory. While the company’s website lacks the live support chat most of its competitors do, they provided prompt and informative responses to my support questions submitted via their trouble ticket submission form and via a direct email.

The service’s online support library is also an excellent resource for those willing to dig a bit on their own.

7

Verdict

VPN Unlimited’s connection speeds might not be as impressive as other providers, although they do offer great privacy protections. If you are in particular need of a dedicated IP address in France or India, they are the only game in tow. Otherwise, I would advise you to look elsewhere.

Tips for Getting the Most From Your Static IP Address

Now that you’ve decided on a VPN provider for your dedicated IP address, it’s time to take a look at a few ways to make the best use of your shiny new IP address.

Step #1 - Set Up a Router for the Dedicated IP

By setting up a router to connect to your dedicated IP, you can offer the convenience of dedicated IP VPN protection to all of the users in your home or office. This provides the convenience of less hassle when getting connected to web services such as streaming video providers and gaming servers that sometimes reject standard VPN server addresses.

Step #2 - Register Your New IP With Secure Websites

When using a regular VPN service with security-conscious websites such as banking sites, credit card company sites and others, the website may complain that you’re coming from an unrecognized IP address, and will request you to identify yourself by entering an answer to a security question, or enter an authorization code sent to you via a text message.

When first connecting to such a site using your shiny new dedicated IP address, the website will likely request similar identification. However, it should recognize your IP address from then on, saving you both time and hassle.

My Dedicated Verdict

Any of the VPN providers I’ve discussed in this article will provide you a dedicated IP address for use with your VPN account. However, only one can offer the best service, fastest speeds and greatest overall protection.

NordVPN is my choice for best dedicated IP VPN provider due to its fast connections, excellent encryption, wide variety of location options and great multi-platform support. I highly suggest you consider NordVPN as your dedicated IP VPN provider of choice.
