VyprVPN Not Working With Netflix? Here is How To Fix it (2024 Edition)

VyprVPN not working with Netflix content from back home? In this article, I'll tell you how to fix that issue.

At a Glance

You’re traveling abroad, and the fabulous sights you’re seen have inspired you. You’ve decided to get your first tattoo, but you can’t quite decide on the final design. Maybe a binge of “Tattoo Redo” will give you some ideas. You find a comfortable spot with your VPN-protected iPad, tap the Netflix button and get ready for inspiration to hit you.

Instead, you see the following, tattooed across your iPad screen: “Whoops, something went wrongStreaming Error. You seem to be using an unblocker or proxy. Please turn off any of these services and try again.”

Why Doesn’t VyprVPN Work With Netflix?

More and more VPN users, such as VyprVPN customers, are finding that their formerly-reliable method of accessing Netflix content while abroad is letting them down, only unlocking a certain country’s Netflix – like VyprVPN’s U.S.-only access – or not accessing the content at all.

VyprVPN not working with Netflix? Try this...

Switch to NordVPN (which has proven to be the best VPN provider for viewing Netflix).

I’ve tested a lot of VPNs, and I find NordVPN reliably works to access Netflix in numerous countries around the globe. It’s incredibly fast as well, so you can binge in HD and 4K without the buffering.

NordVPN has a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can try it risk-free.

How a VPN User Loses Access to Netflix

While internet users may have had only one usage reason in mind when they subscribed to their VPN provider, I’d be willing to bet most users have discovered that a VPN makes a great way to protect their internet usage – no matter what their online antics. For that reason, many users leave their VPN turned on all of the time.

When a VPN subscriber loads their VPN app of choice onto their device and connects to the VPN service, their internet connection is then routed through one of the VPN provider’s servers. The connection is then encrypted to hide the user’s online activities from prying eyes.

This also gives the connection a new IP address, which makes it appear as if the user is connected in another location, which could be down the street (or on the other side of the world!).

VPN services connect a large number of users through the same VPN server, and many users are routed through the same “spoofed” IP address. A multitude of users share a mere handful of IP addresses.

This provides an extra bit of protection for users, as multiple users’ online activities are channeled via a single, shared IP address. This makes it darned near impossible to trace online activity back to a single user due to multiple users sharing the IP address.

However, this arrangement also makes it easier for services like Netflix to detect if a user is connecting via a VPN service.

If Netflix’s IT folks see a large number of connections coming from a single IP address, and not just a few like you might normally see from a home internet connection, they’ll usually take a closer look to see what exactly is going on.

When they investigate and find evidence of VPN usage, they will blacklist that address from connecting to their content. The users are screwed, blued, and not tattooed.

NETFLIX VPN Blocking

When Netflix does finally blacklist an IP address being used by a VPN server, the VPN customers that used that server must begin searching for an IP address that still works. They are also likely to complain to their VPN provider’s customer support department. (I highly suggest you always do this when an IP address goes “bad” for you.)

Once enough users complain about a particular IP address no longer acting as the key to Netflix’s lock, most VPN services will set up a new range of IP addresses, once again allowing access to the Netflix treasure trove. Well, at least until Netflix detects the new addresses, and the game begins anew.

While all of this may be aggravating (on both sides of the ball), Netflix has the right to restrict access to its services. The streaming provider’s contracts with content providers demand that only users within specific areas may legally view the licensed content.

If Netflix allowed users from another country to access content meant for a specific locale, they could lose rights to the content – or even worse, be sued by – gasp! – movie studio lawyers!

As this back-and-forth battle of the IP addresses has continued, many smaller VPNs (and those with limited resources) have dropped out of the chess game, ceding victory to Netflix. However, there are still providers who believe you should be able to watch all the hot tattoo action you want, from anywhere you want.

The Best Alternative When VyprVPN Doesn’t Work

When Netflix announced in January 2016 that they would be actively working to block connections from users making use of VPN and proxy servers to access their content, a large number of VPN providers decided not to keep making the effort to keep the Netflix gates open for their customers.

Luckily, some VPN services decided to continue the battle, including the one I’ll be telling you about in the next section.

Best Netflix Access: NordVPN

NordVPN

NordVPN has always been and continues to be, an efficient way to access Netflix content outside of your own borders. (For a full review of NordVPN, click here.) While users may occasionally need to do the disconnect/reconnect shuffle, they can rest assured that they’ll be able to quickly find a server that provides Netflix access.

Global Server Coverage

Any VPN that offers comprehensive global server coverage makes for an excellent way to access international content, such as audio, video, or gaming content that might normally be blocked in your location.

NordVPN fits the bill with more than 5,600 servers, spread out among 60+ countries around the globe.

Connection Speed

All the access to all of the content in the world isn’t any good if you have to wait forever for it to buffer before playing. NordVPN has regularly supplied encrypted connection speeds that are some of the fastest I’ve ever seen. The provider delivered speeds at 196.4 Mbps in my most recent round of connection speed tests. That means even HD and 4K content will start with little or no buffering.

Online Security and Privacy Protection

The provider keeps your online travels incognito, thanks to its use of banking-grade encryption, kill switch protection, and much more to keep your online activities incognito.

NordVPN keeps absolutely no server logs of your online activities. Its owned-and-operated servers mean outsiders don’t have access to your personal information. Plus, all NordVPN servers are run only from volatile RAM, with no data whatsoever being saved to a physical hard drive. This means that all data is securely wiped when a server is rebooted or shutdown.

The company extends its welcome privacy protections to the category of payment records, too, as it accepts the privacy-friendly Bitcoin cryptocurrency as payment for its services. Use a disposable email address for additional account privacy.

Multi-Platform Support

I feel safe in saying that Netflix is available on every popular desktop, mobile, streaming, and gaming platform available today. NordVPN has most of those platforms covered, ensuring you’ll have a VPN connection to access international Netflix content, no matter what device you’re using.

NordVPN offers native apps for macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, Amazon Fire, Android TV, and Android device platforms. The provider’s macOS app is natively compatible with M1 and M2 Macs. In addition, they also provide extensions for the Chrome, Edge, and Firefox browser platforms.

Users of PlayStation (3 and 4) and Xbox (360 and One) gaming consoles, as well as Apple TV viewers, aren’t left out in the cold either, as NordVPN’s SmartDNS service opens up access to Netflix for those devices.

The provider allows up to six simultaneous connections to their service via the same login. Users requiring more connections at once, such as family or small business users, can connect all of their devices via a large number of WiFi routers.

Ready-made router solutions are available from FlashRouters.com.

Customer Support

I would never wish any technical difficulties on any of my readers, nor any other internet denizens either. However, there’s a very good chance that you’ll need to contact your VPN provider’s customer support department for a service or payment-related issue.

NordVPN’s customer support department provides some of the best in the industry. The company provides three forms of support, including 24/7 live support chat, an email support option, and a searchable support library.

This provider’s customer support agents have always come through for me, as I have always received fast, well-informed replies to my support questions. I’ve also made use of their easy-to-use support library when I felt like a bit of do-it-yourself digging for answers.

Pricing

NordVPN asks a surprisingly low price for its above-average service, making it a great value choice.

A 30-day money-back guarantee ensures that you will have more than enough time to decide if NordVPN is the right provider for you.

Conclusion

NordVPN is still ready to unblock your favorite Netflix content, even when you’re outside of the country. The provider offers a reliable method for knocking down the geographical walls that Netflix and other streaming providers erect.

This provider brings a number of excellent features to the table, offering fast connection speeds, great customer support, wide-ranging global server coverage, and excellent protection for the privacy of their customers.

VyprVPN & Netflix VPN FAQs

Can’t I Use a Free VPN With Netflix?

You may be able to find a free VPN that will allow you to access Netflix, but don’t hold your breath, as blue is not your color. But seriously, the free VPN/Netflix experience is not a pleasant one.

First of all, many free VPNs have a small global server network, limiting your access to content outside of your country. This limited number of servers means it’s easy for Netflix and other streaming services to block those servers’ IP addresses.

Free VPNs also usually throttle the connection speeds of its users, while also imposing strict daily or monthly data caps on the users’ VPN usage.

It should also be mentioned that free VPNs don’t exactly understand what the “private” part of “VPN” means, as they log their users’ online travels, and then sell that valuable info to anyone willing to pay for it. Many sans-fee VPNs have also been caught inserting unwanted ads and tracking cookies into users’ browsing sessions.

Will a VPN Slow My Connection Speeds?

A VPN will almost certainly slow your connection speeds. A VPN reroutes your connection, while also encrypting and decrypting it. This overhead will slow your speeds. However, a quality VPN service will not slow your connection to the extent that you can’t enjoy your favorite online activities. In many cases, the slowdown will not be noticeable.

Will My ISP Be Able to Tell That I’m Using a VPN?

Yes, your ISP will be able to tell that you’re using a VPN, but it will not be able to tell what you’re doing inside that protective VPN tunnel. It may also be able to detect which VPN provider you’re using, how much data you’re using (because data is data, even if it’s encrypted), and how long you’re connected.
