How to Track GPS, Phone Calls, Text Messages & Web Activity on a Phone

GPS Mobile

The kids growing up in today’s world are often introduced to the internet at a very young age.

Smartphones, tablets and laptops have provided us with easy access to the internet, wherever we are. Children are not excluded from this opportunity.

Most parents have struggled at some point with the thought of their children doing something unsafe or getting themselves into a bad situation. At a young age, kids are often rather naive and don’t see a threat where there might be one.

Therefore, it’s not a bad call to start discussing online threats with your children and setting specific ground rules if they want to use a smartphone or tablet.

As a parent, you could also start asking to see their phones in order to find out exactly what they’re doing online.

While checking your children's online activities may not be a bad idea, it’s probably not necessary to check your kid’s device every day.

Constant monitoring can trigger a negative effect and cause a real problem, especially when kids know their devices are being monitored. They might delete conversations, browse in incognito mode before coming home from school or secretly change their password.

As a parent, though, you should be able to make a fair judgement call on how often you should check.

That’s why there’s another option available to monitor a child’s phone: installing an app that tracks phone usage and online activities. While this is still monitoring, it would probably yield fewer consequences than asking them to physically hand it over.

Available Phone Tracking Software

There’s a significant market for phone tracking software. Notable companies in the phone tracking industry include the following:

  • mSpy - considered the best paid tool for iPhone
  • Highster Mobile - considered the best paid tool for Android
  • FlexiSPY
  • iKeyMonitor
  • hashtag
    PhoneSheriff

Unfortunately, the tools listed above are not free and start at $30 for the most basic features. Prices can go as high as a staggering $299.

Therefore, I decided to create a guide on how to track GPS, phone calls, messages and social media behaviour on a phone, but with a free software tracking tool.

The tracking software I recommend has been created by “Spy Phone Labs LLC.” It’s an officially registered, U.S.-based company - so it’s definitely not a scam.

As stated on Phone Tracker’s website

“Spy Phone Labs LLC is a U.S. Based company with offices in New Jersey. Spy Phone Labs LLC is the World Leader in Phone Tracker Software for Android Phones. Spy Phone® is a registered U.S. Trademark of Spy Phone Labs LLC.”

This free software application is able to return accurate data of any device you’ve installed it on.

One account can track up to 5 unique devices, so, in a two-parent household, if each parent had a separate account, they could track up to 10 devices in total! I would imagine that to be more than enough.

You may be asking yourself, “isn’t that going a bit too far?” Well, it depends.

Every parent would want to protect their children from cyberbullying, sexual predators and pornographic content - by whatever means necessary.

What Can You Do with Phone Tracker?

With Phone Tracker, you can track geolocations, as well as view text messages and web activity.

1

Calls

All the in- and outgoing phone calls are monitored so you can see exactly which phone numbers have been called. It also includes a function that shows the time and date of a call, including the length of the conversation.

2

GPS

The software tool also sends a GPS ping to the monitoring device every 30 minutes. By opening the control panel, you can locate the whereabouts of your kid.

Extra tip: in addition to being an accurate tracker, it also works very well for when your child loses their phone. With the GPS data, you can quickly see where your child’s phone was logged for the last time.

3

Web Activity

Lastly, the application is able to record all web activities. Every website your kid visits will be registered in the control panel, and you will be able to see when it was visited.

As mentioned before, you can install the application on 5 different devices, and all of the data on these devices will be available within the control panel. It’s tracking 24/7!

How to Download Phone Tracker

In order to download Phone Tracker, simply visit Phone Tracker’s official website.

The application needs to be downloaded onto any device you wish to track. Once the app is installed, you can access the tracking information by logging into the Control Panel on Phone Tracker’s website, so there’s no need to download the app onto your own phone (or computer).

Once you’re on the page, click on the green box labeled “Free Download.”

Phone Tracker How to Download

There are two different downloads available for both Android and iOS devices.

How to Install Phone Tracker

The installation works just like any other application from the Google Play or Apple store.

1. The first window that will show is the “Terms and Conditions” page. Please read it carefully and then click “OK”:

Within the Control Panel, you can see all the data and information that is generated by the tool on the tracked device.

That’s all there is to it!

Note: Kids Will Be Notified of Monitoring

A lot of people have different opinions on tracking software, and many argue that it’s an invasion of privacy.

In order to comply with laws and regulations in regards to tracking software, which does not allow tracking without the user’s permission, the Phone Tracker application sends a text message to every device it’s installed on every 12 hours. The same message will show up in a pop-up of the application on every device.

So, kids are aware of the fact that their device is being monitored.

In most cases, it’s not a bad idea to be honest about it and explain to your children the situation and the reason why you monitor what they are doing on their smartphones.

Tracking GPS on an iOS Device

The latest versions of Apple devices allow users to share their locations repeatedly with any Apple product, such as iPhones, iPads, iMacs and MacBooks.

There are two ways you can use to track the GPS of an iOS device.

  1. Open “Messages”

By opening the message inbox on your child’s phone, you can select a conversation and click the “i” (information) symbol in the top right corner.  In this case, you would want to click on your own name/phone number.

Then select “Send My Current Location (iPhone name)” and confirm by clicking the call to action stating “Share from this device.” Once you've done this, then the location of your child will be shared to your device.

  1. Open “Contacts”

When you open the contact list of your child's phone and search for yourself, it should look like this:

It almost speaks for itself what to do here.

Select “Share Indefinitely” in order to get the same results as in the first example.

And again, you can either be honest about it and tell your child that you’re tracking their phone or hope your child won’t find out, because location-sharing is rather easy to turn off again.

Spy Software vs. Scams

There are a lot of fake products and services on the market. This is no different when it comes to spy applications.

Be aware when choosing a different free software tool - which is not the spy software tool we recommended in this guide - that there’s a chance you could fall victim to a scam.

For example, websites pretending you only need the person’s phone number to track their activity, GPS and messages are definitely a scam.

Also, a heads up: spy apps don’t often run secretly in the background.

Pretty much every spy application on the market, paid or free, leaves some sort of notification or message on the device it’s installed on.

A notification could be a simple pop-up showing it’s active or an actual message to tell the user of the device that it’s being monitored.

As mentioned before, the one being monitored has to be aware of the fact that it’s happening. If not, it’s an illegal activity and considered an invasion of privacy.

Some people might have good intentions for spying on their kids, but other people may use spy applications in order to use it against someone with the intention to blackmail a person. It’s for this reason that such laws exist - to protect a user’s privacy.

Privacy & Tracking

Obviously, you don’t want to start a conflict, because tracking someone without his or her approval is not legal. I don’t think many people “like” to be followed, you know?

It’s a little bit different for your children, because you want to protect your children from potential online danger and make sure they’re safe. However, parents should also respect the privacy of their children, as every one of us would want if we were kids.

In the end, finding the right balance between safety, online security and privacy is the objective here. There’s a lot to gain by having conversations with your kids and making them aware that everything they do on the internet is registered, and once they’ve written or uploaded something, it’s available for everyone and can always be traced back to them.

When you decide to monitor your children’s online behavior, it’s time to have a sit down with them and let them realize why you do it. It’s probably not to check their every move. Trust is key and fundamental to a healthy relationship!

That’s all for now.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this guide on tracking GPS, phone calls, text messages and online activity!
