If you’re outside of Hungary but are hungry for access to Hungarian content (see what I did there?), you need a Hungarian IP address.
That’s because Hungarian content and services are geo-blocked. Only internet users living in Hungary, and who therefore have a Hungarian IP address, can access them. The services that geo-block their content include streaming services like Netflix, financial services, and more.
Thankfully, you don’t need to relocate to Hungary to access this content. All you need is a Virtual Private Network (VPN).
Can a VPN Get a Hungarian IP Address for Me?
A VPN will route your connection through Hungary, giving you a Hungarian local IP address. This IP address will allow you to access Hungarian content that was previously unavailable to you.
In this article, I review the top six best VPNs for getting a Hungarian IP address.

These are the six best VPNs for getting a Hungarian IP address.
1. NordVPN
NordVPN is your best friend when it comes to getting an IP address in Hungary while living or traveling abroad.
5,700+ NordVPN servers cover the globe in 60+ countries, Hungary included. The provider is adept at accessing content almost anywhere in the world.
NordVPN’s connection speeds are some of the fastest I’ve ever seen, never limiting you with bandwidth restrictions or data caps. You can stream, game, and share files to your heart’s content with no extended waiting for anything to load.
There are security protections galore at NordVPN. The provider offers government-grade AES 256-bit encryption, an automatic kill switch, IP/DNS leak prevention, as well as ad and malware blocking. Recently, the provider created its new, proprietary “NordLynx” protocol, which increases your speed in addition to your security.
NordVPN also recently underwent a third-party privacy audit, proving that it never saves any logs of your online activities. Also, the provider allows you to pay with the privacy-protecting Bitcoin, if that’s how you roll.
Additional privacy points are scored, thanks to this provider’s owned-and-operated servers (which keep outside contractors away from your personal info) and also run all of its servers 100% from RAM, saving no data to a physical hard drive or SSD. This means all data on the servers is completely wiped whenever they are rebooted or turned off.
There are apps available for Android, iOS, Windows, Linux, macOS (with M1/M2 Mac support), Amazon Fire, and Android TV device platforms. Chrome, Edge, and Firefox browser extensions are also available, and there’s support for a multitude of makes and models of routers.
The provider’s SmartDNS service allows game consoles, smart TVs, and other set-top boxes to access Hungarian streaming content, despite the fact that these platforms don’t support VPN apps. However, keep in mind that the service does not encrypt your internet connection as the VPN service does.
Up to six devices can connect to the service simultaneously on one account.
Customer support options include 24/7 live chat, email support, and a searchable support library.
Pros:
- Reliable servers in Hungary
- Plenty of app support
- Impressive download speeds
- Comprehensive digital security and privacy
- Very affordable pricing
Cons:
- Doesn’t label streaming-optimized servers in its apps
BEST VPN FOR AN IP ADDRESS IN HUNGARY:NordVPN offers fast speeds, wide app support, plenty of servers in Hungary, strong encryption, and a proven no-logs policy, making it the best option for grabbing a true IP address in Hungary. A risk-free 30-day money-back guarantee is available.

2. Surfshark
Surfshark offers its excellent services at a low price, so if you’re intent on saving money, Surfshark may be the provider for you.
The provider’s server network was once something to be pitied, but it’s since stepped up its game, offering 3,200+ servers in 100+ countries now, Hungary included.
Surfshark offers some fast connection speeds, in the top 10 in my most recent round of testing. There’s unlimited bandwidth and no data caps, and you can stream video in HD, share large files, and play fast-moving games at those speeds.
Surfshark uses banking-grade AES 256-bit encryption, an automatic kill switch, DNS and IP leak protection, ad and tracking blocking, and malware and phishing protections to protect your connection.
Surfshark also offers a “Camouflage Mode” that makes your VPN activity appear to be normal browser activity. In addition, there’s a “MultiHop” option that routes your internet connection through two VPN servers instead of one for added security.
The provider also never saves any activity logs and allows you to pay with Bitcoin. Surfshark runs all of its servers solely from RAM, meaning all data is wiped when a server is shut down or rebooted. The provider was voted a #1 Cybersecurity Company in a recent assessment.
Surfshark’s app support is satisfying, with apps available for Android, Windows, macOS (supporting Apple silicon), Linux, iOS, Android TV, and Amazon Fire device platforms. Chrome, Edge, and Firefox browser extensions are also available, as is support for multiple makes and models of routers.
Unlimited simultaneous connections are allowed, so you can protect all of your devices/family/friends/coworkers on one account.
24/7 customer support is available in the form of live chat. Email support and a searchable support library are also available.
Pros:
- Servers in Hungary and around the globe
- Budget pricing
- Unlimited simultaneous connections
- Extensive security protections
Cons:
- Missing some advanced features in apps
BEST VPN FOR USERS ON A BUDGET:Users on a budget will appreciate Surfshark’s value pricing. The provider offers unlimited simultaneous connections, fast speeds, plenty of digital security protections, and comprehensive app support. A 30-day money-back guarantee is available.

3. ExpressVPN
While ExpressVPN is not a budget-priced provider, the service it offers is excellent for multiple purposes, especially streaming.
ExpressVPN’s server network covers nearly 95 countries with 3,000+ servers, Hungary being one of them. After you’ve gotten your fill of Hungarian content, ExpressVPN offers access to plenty more countries.
ExpressVPN’s connection speeds are the fastest available, ensuring you’ll have an excellent experience streaming content in HD or 4K. Gaming and file sharing will also be a problem-free experience. Unlimited bandwidth is available, and there are no data caps.
Government-grade AES 256-bit encryption, automatic kill switch protection, and IP/DNS leak prevention all protect your connection. A proprietary “Lightway” protocol increases your speed as well as security.
The provider never saves logs of your online activities and lets you pay with the privacy-friendly Bitcoin cryptocurrency, if that’s what you prefer.
The provider’s proprietary “TrustedServer” technology runs all server operations only from RAM, never writing any data to a physical hard drive. This means all of the data is wiped clean when the server is rebooted.
ExpressVPN’s app support is impressive, with the provider offering apps for iOS, macOS (with native support for Apple silicon Macs), Windows, Linux, Android, ChromeOS, Amazon Fire, and Android TV device platforms. There are browser extensions for Brave, Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Vivaldi.
There’s also plenty of router support. Recently, the provider updated its router app interface, making for easy digital location switching. There’s an interactive router setup guide as well.
“MediaStreamer” is ExpressVPN’s smart DNS service, which allows devices incompatible with VPN apps, such as game consoles, smart TVs, and other set-top boxes, to access international streaming content. Just beware: The service doesn’t encrypt your internet connection like the VPN service does.
You can connect up to five devices simultaneously on one account when using ExpressVPN.
ExpressVPN offers myriad customer support options, including 24/7 live chat, email support, a trouble ticket submission system, and a searchable support database.
Pros:
- Servers located in Hungary and 90+ other countries
- Incredibly fast connection speeds
- Thorough online protection
- Wide-ranging app support
Cons:
- More expensive than many other providers
- Limits concurrent device connections to five

Above-average connection speeds mean your streaming, gaming, and file-sharing sessions will be more than optimal. You’ll never face any bandwidth restrictions or data caps.
CyberGhost thoroughly protects your online security, offering military-grade AES 256-bit encryption, an automatic kill switch, and DNS/IP leak protection. Blocking of malicious websites and online trackers is also available, as is an option to force websites to serve up secure versions of their pages.
In addition, the provider recently improved its security for Windows. The provider now offers antivirus, a “Privacy Guard” that lets you control how much information Windows collects about you, and a “Security Updater,” which notifies you when out-of-date apps need updating.

5. Private Internet Access
Private Internet Access (PIA) provides access to IP addresses in several countries around the globe, thanks to the provider’s global server network boasting 3,300+ servers located in nearly 85 countries, Hungary included.
PIA’s comprehensive connection protection is provided via government-grade encryption, a kill switch, and IP/DNS leak protection. PIA also offers blocking of ads, dangerous websites, trackers, and malware.
All of the provider’s servers are run user log-free, meaning there are no records to be had that are connected to your online travels. Bitcoin is accepted here, providing protection for your payment privacy.
PIA provides app support for Android, Android TV, iOS, macOS, Windows, and Linux device platforms. Chrome, Opera, and Firefox browser extensions are available to protect your browsing. The provider is also compatible with select router models.
PIA has an unlimited policy when it comes to how many devices can be simultaneously connected to its servers.
The provider’s download speeds are the second-slowest on this list. However, the provider’s connections are easily up to handling your favorite popular online activities. There are no daily or monthly data caps or bandwidth throttling to deal with when connected to this provider.
PIA’s customer support options include live chat, a trouble ticket system, and a searchable support database.
Pros:
- Access to IP addresses in Hungary and other countries
- Well-protected, fast connections
- Impressive global server coverage
Cons:
- Lacks streaming-optimized servers

6. PrivateVPN
PrivateVPN’s rather limited global server network has 200+ servers stationed in 60+ countries, making it the smallest server network on this list. While the provider’s network is small, it provides reliable access to content in the countries where it has servers.
The provider also offers the slowest connection in this lineup. However, PrivateVPN’s connections deliver enough bandwidth for streaming, gaming, and other popular online activities.
PrivateVPN-provided internet connections are protected by government-grade encryption, IP/DNS leak protection, and more. A “Stealth VPN” feature disguises your VPN traffic as normal browser activity.
The provider’s strict no-server logs policy means there are no logs to be had of your online activities while connected to PrivateVPN’s network of servers. A cryptocurrency payment option keeps your payment information private. Use a disposable email address for additional privacy.
PrivateVPN’s app support is limited, due to its app offerings being limited to Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows devices. Linux devices and some routers can also be manually set up to work with the VPN. Browser extensions are also missing.
Up to 10 devices can be simultaneously connected to the provider’s servers.
PrivateVPN’s customer support includes multiple options, including agent chat, a support request form, and an FAQ area.
Pros:
- Access to IP addresses in Hungary and 60+ other countries
- Stealth VPN disguises VPN usage
- Comprehensive online security and privacy
Cons:
- Needs. More. Servers
- App selection is a bit lacking
TINY BUT POWERFUL VPN:PrivateVPN’s small global server network provides reliable access to IP addresses and content where it does have servers. The provider’s “Stealth VPN” feature hides your VPN usage. A 30-day money-back guarantee is available.

Methodology for Assessing VPNs for a Hungarian IP Address
Internet users around the globe face online perils. They are also limited in what content they can access, due to geographical content restrictions. This means that there are several features to keep in mind when selecting a VPN to grab a Hungarian IP address while also protecting your online activities.
- Global server network: The larger the size of a VPN provider’s global server network, the better access you’ll have to geo-fenced content around the globe. Plus, look for a provider that stations multiple servers in each country it serves. This lessens the chances that any single server will be overloaded by too many connections at once.
- Connection speeds: Whatever your favorite online activities, a fast internet connection is your biggest ally. The VPNs on this list provide connections that can handle just about any of your online pastimes.
- Value: A VPN’s true value can be determined by comparing its asking price to the services it offers. The VPNs on my list offer an excellent return on investment.
- Ease of use: A VPN should support as many popular device platforms as possible while being easy to use. The VPNs on my list provide intuitive apps for the most popular connected devices.
- Security and privacy: All VPN connections should be protected with banking-grade encryption, a kill switch, and DNS/IP leak protection. A strict no-logs policy is also a requirement. The providers on my list provide comprehensive online security and privacy.
- Streaming: Streaming is one of the most popular online activities today. Most of the VPNs on this list provide reliable access to multiple popular streaming sites, including Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and others.
This is just some of my overall VPN testing methodology. My data-driven approach allows me to better rank these VPNs, helping my readers to make an informed VPN buying decision.
IP Address for Hungary FAQs
Why Are Websites and Services Geo-Blocked?
It doesn’t matter if you have a subscription to a Hungarian streaming service. If you’re not in Hungary, you can’t access their video streaming content.
Why is that?
It’s because streaming services like Netflix have to restrict who can access their location-specific content because of the contracts they sign with TV and movie producers.
TV and movie studios sell their content on a country-by-country basis in order to increase their profits. Think about it: If anyone in the world could access the movie or show they wanted in one location, the studios couldn’t make the kind of money they want to make. So they restrict access.
Ultimately, this means that either you’ll be blocked outright from accessing a service’s content, or that the content available in your region will differ from what’s available in another region.
Financial services also operate this way. This is because it’s a red flag if someone outside of the country attempts to access an account inside the country. So, they’ll block access to the account from that user, even if they’re actually an authorized party.
Virtual Private Networks can correct this problem by giving you a new IP address in a new country, in this case, Hungary. This new IP address will make you appear as if you’re really located in Hungary, even if you’re half a world away, opening up access to blocked sites and services.
How Is Content Geographically Blocked?
The way that sites and services are able to block your access is by taking a peek at your device’s IP address.
An IP address is what identifies your device on a network. It acts like a home address for your device, letting the internet know where a request came from and where a response needs to be sent.
However, IP addresses vary by country, revealing your geographical location.
All a streaming or other kind of service has to do is check your IP address to know where you’re connecting from. If you’re not connecting from the “correct” location, your access will be blocked.
How Can I Access Blocked Hungarian Content From Overseas?
It’s easy to access geo-blocked content from inside of Hungary or anywhere else abroad by using a Virtual Private Network (VPN).
By connecting to a VPN server located in Hungary, your real IP address will be hidden and you’ll be given a local IP address in Hungary. When you use a reputable VPN service provider, this will enable you to open up access to blocked Hungarian content.
Of course, if you’re hoping to access a blocked service, it helps to have a subscription to that service. (VPN providers can’t help you access, say, Netflix’s content if you don’t have a subscription.)
Follow the steps below to unblock access to Hungarian sites and services.
- Subscribe to a VPN provider (NordVPN is my top recommendation).
- Download and install the VPN’s app(s) for your device(s).
- Start the app and connect to a Hungarian server.
- Visit the Hungarian site or service you’re interested in. (You may possibly need to delete cookies and clear your cache in your browser.)
- Enjoy your newly-enabled access to Hungarian content and sites!
What Else Can a VPN Do For Me?
A VPN can do more than just unblock access in other countries.
A VPN also protects your internet travels by coating your internet connection in a layer of encryption, making it impossible for governments, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) or hackers to monitor your online activities and steal your personal information.
This encryption is not only good in the home, but also outside the home. Public WiFi hotspots are notorious for being unencrypted, leaving users open to the bad intentions of hackers. However, a VPN’s encryption keeps your sensitive personal, financial and business information safe from bad actors.
In addition, you should know that ISPs like to throttle or block the internet connections of users participating in certain activities, like torrenting or streaming from “unapproved” sources. A VPN’s encryption makes it impossible for your ISP to see what you’re up to, preventing them from interfering with your online activities.
Can I Use a Free VPN Provider to Access Content in Hungary?
Free VPNs aren’t good for any use, but especially not for accessing content in Hungary.
For one thing, free VPNs have limited server networks. So much so that they may make you wait in a queue behind other free users before allowing you to connect to their paltry list of servers. And you may not be given any choice in which server you’re connected to.
The likelihood that you’ll be connected to a server in Hungary is slim to none.
Once you’re connected, you can expect your connection speeds to slow greatly. That’s because free VPNs save bandwidth for their paying customers by throttling the bandwidth of free users. You’ll also have to deal with daily or monthly data caps.
But that isn’t the worst of it. The worst of it is their logging policies. Free VPNs have to make money somehow, and they often do it by recording the online activities of free users and selling the information to the highest bidder, either an advertiser or worse.
Some free VPNs will also insert unwanted ads and tracking cookies into their users’ browsing sessions.
With all of this in mind, do you really want to risk your convenience, experience and privacy by choosing a free VPN? I didn’t think so. You’re much better off choosing NordVPN or Surfshark, which offer excellent services at a pittance.
Can I Use Hungarian Banking Services With a VPN?
Many financial and banking websites track your location, locking you out if it appears that you’re not in your home country, which in this case is Hungary. By obtaining a Hungarian IP address, it will appear to your Hungarian bank that you are connecting from somewhere inside of Hungary, and will likely allow you to log in to your account.
How Can I Check If My IP Address Has Been Changed to Hungary?
After connecting to a Hungarian VPN server, your IP address should change to one in that country. Simply connect to an IP-checking website, such as WhatisMyIPAddress.com to view your new IP address and its location.
Conclusion
Users in search of Hungarian content should choose one of the top VPN providers on my list to access geo-blocked content in Hungary. Of those VPNs, NordVPN is the best.
NordVPN’s reliable service offers high-speed servers in Hungary, as well as fast speeds generally, apps for a multitude of devices, all-around fantastic online security and privacy protections, and 24/7 customer support.
