PrivateVPN vs VyprVPN – At a Glance
PrivateVPN
While PrivateVPN offers comprehensive online protection, it could do much better in a few important service areas. That said, those in search of good, basic VPN protection at a reasonable price may want to take a close look at PrivateVPN.
VyprVPN
Swiss-based VPN provider VyprVPN provides top-notch online privacy and security protection, keeping your online travels incognito. While the VPN delivers impressive connection speeds, VyprVPN’s app support could be better.
Choosing a VPN
Before making any VPN buying decision, carefully investigate how well a provider performs in each critical service category.
I’ll be rating two VPN providers, PrivateVPN and VyprVPN. I’ll take a look at the performance of both VPNs in each service category, add up the scores, and declare an overall victor.
By the time you reach the end of this article, you’ll know what you need to make an informed decision.
PrivateVPN vs VyprVPN – Features
Now comes the time to take a look at the VPN features you should carefully consider before buying a VPN subscription.
Connection Speeds
Whatever your favorite online pastimes, a fast connection makes them more enjoyable. (Except for paying bills or taxes, nothing makes that better.)
I regularly perform VPN connection speed tests. Here’s what the process entails:
- My connection speed tests are performed using a North American Windows server with a gigabit Ethernet connection.
- Connections are made to three VPN servers, which are located in London, New York City, and Hong Kong, at three different times of the day.
- I test using the Windows version of the VPN providers’ apps and the app is configured to connect using the Wireguard protocol when available.
- I run the Speedtest app after connecting to each VPN server location, exiting and restarting the Speedtest app between each speed test.
While both providers delivered capable speeds, one provider delivered connection speeds more than six times faster than its competitor.
While PrivateVPN’s were fast enough, coming in at 40 Mbps, VyprVPN provided quite impressive download speeds, measuring in at 258.0 Mbps.
Remember that your connection speeds will be different from what I saw, as your speeds will depend on your ISP-provided connection speeds, where you’re located, and the location of the VPN server you select.

Pricing
The prices we pay for groceries, fuel, and other necessities seem to go up every day, so we’re always looking for ways to save a few bucks wherever we can. However, you’ll find that ultra-cheap VPNs (or free VPNs) may not provide all of the protection and features you require. This means that it is important to determine a provider’s true value.
A month of PrivateVPN will cost about the price of two items at your local Dollar Tree store when you opt for the three-year plan. The provider offers a 30-day money-back guarantee.
VyprVPN’s monthly fee is equivalent to the price of a Five Below item (the five, not the below) when you opt for a one-year subscription. (VyprVPN doesn’t offer any lengthier subscriptions.)
You’ll notice that I never post exact VPN pricing in my articles. This is because VPNs change their pricing on a regular basis, so it doesn’t take long for pricing information to become outdated. Visit the VPN providers’ websites to find out their current pricing.

Privacy
If you go online without a VPN, you’re leaving behind evidence of what you’ve been up to online. This means a VPN’s privacy features are an important consideration.
The following should be considered when researching a VPN’s privacy protections:
- Is the provider located in a privacy-friendly country?
- Does the provider save any user logs on its servers?
- Does the provider accept cryptocurrency as payment?
PrivateVPN is located in Sweden and saves no logs related to users’ online activities. It also accepts cryptocurrency, which, if used with a disposable email address, keeps your subscription info undercover.
VyprVPN is based in Switzerland, keeping no user logs on its servers. Unfortunately, VyprVPN does not accept cryptocurrency as payment.

Security
If you venture online without a VPN, you’re not only leaving evidence behind, but you’re also leaving yourself open to being tracked by outsiders in real-time while you use the internet. A VPN encrypts your connection, while also temporarily assigning a new IP address to your connected device, keeping your travels hidden.
PrivateVPN protects its users’ connections with military-grade encryption. Its connection protocols include OpenVPN over UDP/TCP, L2TP/IPSec, IPSec, PPTP, and IKEv2. Kill switch protection is available, while a “Stealth VPN” feature disguises your VPN usage as normal browsing activity.
VyprVPN also uses military-level encryption to keep its users’ online travels undercover, along with a kill switch. WireGuard, OpenVPN, L2TP/IPSec, and PPTP are the available connection protocols. The company offers a proprietary Chameleon protocol, which disguises your VPN activity as normal browser traffic.

Simultaneous Connections
There is a very good chance that many of my readers own multiple connected devices, and they probably use multiple devices at once. This makes it important to find a VPN provider that gives users a large simultaneous connections allowance.
Both PrivateVPN and VyprVPN limit users to 10 simultaneous connections at a time.
This connection allowance may be a bit limiting for users with large families or small businesses, most users will likely find the allowance to be more than enough.

Streaming Support
On those multiple devices, you may be watching multiple streaming services. Without a VPN, you’re not going to get all that you could be getting from your streaming services. This is because streaming services restrict viewing of their content to designated countries, which is where a VPN can help.
A VPN has the ability to temporarily assign a fresh IP address for your connected device. This makes it appear to other online users that you and your device are located in another country. This opens up access to streaming content that might normally be limited to viewers in that part of the world.
PrivateVPN delivers access to multiple streaming services, including Netflix US, Netflix UK, Hulu, Disney+, and more.
VyprVPN also provides access to numerous streaming services, including Netflix US, Netflix UK, Netflix Canada, MLB.tv, DAZN, Amazon Prime, Hulu, HBO Max, ESPN, and others.

BitTorrent Support
BitTorrent is an efficient way to share files with other online users. However, although file sharing is legal in most areas of the globe and while many reputable companies use P2P to share files among employees, ISPs have been known to throttle or block users’ internet connection if they detect that they’re sharing files.
The reason ISPs do this is that it’s illegal to share copyrighted materials, including movies, music, and games. This has led to the entertainment industry putting pressure on ISPs to block P2P file sharing. ISPs then attempt to throttle your connection speeds or block file sharing, whether the files you’re sharing are legal or not.
A VPN does two things to hide your BitTorrent activities. First, a VPN encrypts your internet connection, which hides your online activities. It also temporarily assigns a fresh IP address to your connected device, preventing anyone from tracing your BitTorrenting back to you.
VyprVPN allows BitTorrenting activity on its global server network.
PrivateVPN also allows file sharing on its network, although it recommends that P2P users connect to its Swedish servers for the best experience.

Global Server Coverage
Depending on your intended use for a VPN, the provider’s global server coverage can either be important or unimportant. If you’re looking to simply keep your online travels undercover, the size of the network might not matter. However, if you’re looking to access international content, the larger a VPN’s server network, the better it is.
You should also look for a provider with multiple servers located in each country. This helps make sure that a single server won’t be hit by too many users connecting at once.
VyprVPN boasts a good-sized global server network, with 700+ servers in 80+ countries.
Meanwhile, PrivateVPN has 200+ servers stationed in 63+ countries.

PrivateVPN | 200+ | 63+ | Visit Site |
Multi-Platform Support
If you have multiple connected devices, they’re all likely running different operating systems. That’s why you should always look for a VPN provider with a healthy number of app options.
PrivateVPN’s device support could best be described as lacking, as its native app options are limited to the iOS, macOS, Android, and Windows device platforms. The provider also lacks any type of browser support. Kodi, Linux devices, and select routers can be manually set up to use the VPN.
VyprVPN’s native app support is only slightly better, with options for Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows device platforms. A Chrome browser extension is available, as is compatibility with select routers. Linux can be protected with a bit of manual setup. (Ready out-of-the-box routers are available through Flashrouters.com.)

Customer Support
While both of these VPNs offer intuitive, reliable VPN services, you’ll likely still have an occasional question about the VPN.
VyprVPN has you covered with live chat, email support, and a searchable support library.
PrivateVPN’s customer support offering includes a live messaging option, email support, and a non-searchable FAQ support section.

And The Winner Is…
Both VyprVPN and PrivateVPN provide comprehensive VPN services, offering top-notch online security and privacy protections, while also providing access to content in other countries. However, one VPN outscored the other by a large margin.
VyprVPN is the overall victor in this battle, thanks to being tops in the Connection Speeds, Streaming Support, Multi-Platform Support, and Global Server Coverage arenas.
PrivateVPN proved to be the victor in only one department, Pricing.
It was a tie when it came to Privacy, Security, Simultaneous Connections, BitTorrent, and Customer Support.
