How to Get an IP Address for Taiwan in 2025 from Anywhere

Are you searching for access to Taiwanese content? Here are the top 6 best VPNs for gaining access to Taiwanese content from anywhere around the world.

At a Glance

Maybe you’re an expat, or perhaps you’re just abroad for a business trip or a vacation. Either way, you can’t access Taiwanese internet content unless you live in Taiwan or have a Taiwanese IP address.

This is because Taiwanese internet content and services, like streaming and financial services, are geo-restricted. You need to have a Taiwanese IP address in order to access them. However, you only have a Taiwanese IP address if you live in Taiwan – or have a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

How Can a VPN Help Me Grab an IP Address from Taiwan?

When you connect to a VPN’s server location in Taiwan, you’ll be allocated a new, temporary, local IP address from Taiwan. This IP address will bust open content blockades, allowing you to access all of the Taiwanese content you have your eye on.

In this article, I review the top six best VPNs for getting a Taiwanese IP address.

How to Get an IP Address in Taiwan

It’s not difficult to use a VPN to get a Taiwanese IP address. Just follow these simple steps:

  1. Purchase a subscription to a VPN service (NordVPN is my #1 choice).
  2. Install the app(s) from your VPN of choice onto your favorite device(s).
  3. Connect to a VPN server located inside Taiwan.
  4. Visit a Taiwanese site or service that you normally can’t access (you may need to clear your browser’s cache and delete your browser’s cookies).
  5. Enjoy your favorite Taiwanese content!

TRY A TOP VPN RISK-FREE: The best VPN providers offer long money-back guarantees, between 30 to 45 days. This gives you ample time to try out a VPN service essentially for “free” before deciding whether or not it’s right for you. If you decide it’s not the best fit, you can cancel your subscription any time before the period expires.

Best VPNs for Getting an IP Address in Taiwan

I’ve spent many hours thoroughly testing the top VPN providers out there and come to the conclusion that these six VPN service providers are the best choices for Taiwan. Here’s the simplified version (there are longer reviews below these ones).

The best VPNs for getting an IP address in Taiwan:

  1. NordVPN: NordVPN is my top pick for an IP address in Taiwan. The provider offers strong encryption with its NordLynx protocol that increases security and already fast speeds. You’ll find plenty of app support and excellent customer support. Risk-free 30-day money-back guarantee.
  2. Surfshark: Best budget-priced VPN plans. Users on a budget will appreciate Surfshark’s low-cost yet high-quality service. The provider offers unlimited simultaneous connections, great digital security and privacy, as well as top-notch app support.
  3. ExpressVPN: Streaming lovers will prefer ExpressVPN. The provider’s incredibly fast speeds, excellent content-unblocking ability and plethora of apps for all kinds of devices make it an enticing pick for streaming Taiwanese content.
  4. CyberGhost: Good option for first-timers. With CyberGhost’s easy-to-use apps that offer one-click protection, rookie VPN users will find a simple service to introduce them to the VPN world. Streaming- and downloading-optimized servers enhance the VPN experience.
  5. Private Internet Access (PIA): Reliable access to IPs in Taiwan. PIA provides reliable access to IP addresses and geo-fenced content in several countries, including Taiwan. It also provides comprehensive security and privacy for your online travels.
  6. PrivateVPNSmall but mighty VPN provider. PrivateVPN may have the smallest number of servers on this list but it offers just about everything else its bigger competitors do. The provider’s servers in Taiwan offer well-protected access to geo-protected content in that country.

How to Choose the Best VPN for an IP Address in Taiwan

Not just any VPN will work best for unblocking content in Taiwan, so I made sure to assess the following factors for each VPN I recommend.

  • Servers located in Taiwan (obviously critical)
  • Connection speeds
  • Security and privacy protections
  • Native app support
  • Customer support

More information about the criteria I used can be found in the testing methodology section later in this article.

Private Internet Access (PIA) has an impressive global server network, made up of 3,300+ servers located in over 90 countries, including Taiwan.

All PIA-provided connections are protected with government-grade encryption, kill switch protection, and IP/DNS leak prevention. PIA can also block ads, trackers, malware, and malicious websites.

PIA’s servers are run completely free of user logs, so there are no records to be had of your online travels. The provider’s Bitcoin subscription payment option keeps your payment information private.

PIA now runs their servers only from RAM, which means that any data on the provider’s servers is automatically wiped whenever the servers are restarted or shut down.

This provider has the second-slowest connection speeds on this list, although the provider’s connections can handle popular online activities (as long as your usual connection speeds are fast enough). Data caps or bandwidth throttling are nowhere to be found.

PIA offers native app support for Android, Android TV, iOS, macOS, Windows, and Linux device platforms. Chrome, Opera, and Firefox browser extensions are available to protect your browsing. The provider is also compatible with select router makes and models.

6. PrivateVPN

PrivateVPN

Apps Available:

  • PC
  • Mac
  • IOS
  • Android
  • Linux
  • FireTV

Website:  www.PrivateVPN.com

Money-back guarantee: 30 DAYS

PrivateVPN’s server count is the lowest on this list, with just over 200+ servers distributed among 60+ countries, including Taiwan. Despite its underwhelming server count, the network provides reliable access to IP addresses and geo-fenced content wherever it has servers.

The provider also brought up the rear in my most recent connection speed tests, although they can easily handle popular online pastimes (as long as your usual speeds are capable). PrivateVPN inflicts no data caps or bandwidth throttling on its customers’ VPN usage.

All PrivateVPN-provided connections are protected using military-grade encryption, IP/DNS leak protection, and more. A “Stealth VPN” feature makes your VPN traffic appear to be normal browser activity, hiding your VPN usage.

The provider’s no-server logs ever policy ensures that there are no records of your online travels. A cryptocurrency payment option keeps your payment information private.

The provider’s native app support includes offerings for Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows devices. Browser extensions are currently unavailable, Linux devices and select routers can be manually configured to work with the provider.

Users can connect up to 10 devices at once to the provider’s VPN servers.

PrivateVPN support offers agent chat, a support request form, and an FAQ page.

Pros:

  • “Stealth VPN” hides your VPN usage
  • No restrictions on VPN usage
  • Top-notch security and privacy protections

Cons:

  • Low server count
  • App support could be better

UNDERCOVER VPN PROTECTION:PrivateVPN’s server count comes up a bit short, as does the provider’s app support. That said, the provider delivers reliable access to geo-fenced materials in the countries where it has servers. A handy “Stealth VPN” feature keeps your VPN usage incognito. A 30-day money-back guarantee is available.

Methodology for Assessing VPNs for IP Addresses in Taiwan

Internet users in search of secure access to a Taiwanese IP address should carefully consider several VPN service points before making a decision. Not all VPNs will offer the features you require, so you’ll want to ensure that your VPN will meet your needs.

These are the factors you should consider when choosing a VPN for an IP address in Taiwan.

  • Server network: Servers located in Taiwan are a requirement if you require access to Taiwanese IP addresses and content inside the country. Ideally, you’ll want to find a provider that serves several countries around the globe, with multiple servers in each country. That provides access to geo-blocked content in other countries, without overloading a single server by being hit by too many users at once.
  • Connection speeds: A fast connection is your friend, no matter what online activities you enjoy. The VPNs on my list never intentionally slow down your connection speeds.
  • Value: The true value of a VPN provider can best be determined by comparing its asking price to the services it offers. The VPNs I include on my list offer pricing that is commensurate with what they offer.
  • Ease of use: A VPN should offer native app support for multiple device platforms. A VPN’s apps should also be easy to use, so ideally you’re protected with just a few taps or clicks.
  • Security and privacy: No matter where you live, you’re subject to online dangers. A VPN should provide banking-grade encryption, a kill switch, and DNS/IP leak protection (at the very least). A no-logs policy is also a must.
  • Streaming: Streaming is a popular activity for many VPN users, so I try to recommend VPNs that are capable of offering access to geo-controlled streaming services, such as Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and other popular streamers.

The list above covers only some of the features I researched as part of my comprehensive VPN testing methodology. This data-driven research provides an in-depth understanding of each provider, allowing me to only recommend those VPNs that are a good fit for my readers’ needs.

Why Are Websites and Services Geo-Blocked?

If you think that your subscription to a Taiwanese streaming service will allow you to access their content from anywhere, you’ve got another thing coming. Being outside of Taiwan precludes you from accessing Taiwanese streaming content.

But why is that?

You have TV and movie producers to thank for that. Streaming providers like Netflix have to restrict access to their content on a country-by-country basis because of the contracts they sign with TV and movie studios, which require that only viewers in certain regions can access the content.

TV and movie producers do this so they can make a bigger profit. If anyone in the world could access their content from anywhere, they wouldn’t be able to make increased revenue by selling their content to streaming providers in other countries.

The result is that you’ll either have no access whatsoever to the streaming service, or you’ll only have access to the location-specific streaming library that the provider offers in your country of residence.

Financial services are also guilty of this. To be fair, they do this for your benefit. If they detect that someone outside of the country is attempting to access your account, it’s a sign that the person may be a hacker. But this is unfortunate, as it may just be you, attempting to connect from abroad.

VPNs are capable of solving this problem by giving you a new IP address in your original country, in this case, Taiwan. With this new IP address, you’ll appear to be in Taiwan, and the bank will have no problem allowing you to access your account.

How Is Content Geographically Blocked?

How does a site or service know where you’re located? By taking a look at your IP address.

Every internet-connected device has an IP address. The device’s IP address is what lets the internet know where a request came from and where to send a response.

Sadly, an IP address also reveals your physical location.

Your IP address is common knowledge to streaming and other kinds of content providers. If you’re attempting to connect with an IP address from the “wrong” region, the service will block your access outright.

How Can I Access Blocked Taiwanese Content From Overseas?

While it’s frustrating that sites and services block you if you’re connecting with an IP address from another country, it’s rather simple to circumvent this by using a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

Once you boot up the VPN app, you can connect to a VPN server in Taiwan. This will hide your true IP address and give you a new IP address from Taiwan. So long as you’re using a reliable VPN service provider, this will allow you to access blocked content and services.

It goes without saying that you have to have a subscription to the blocked service in order to access their content. Netflix isn’t going to allow you to access their content with your new IP address if you don’t have a subscription first.

Use these simple steps to gain access to Taiwanese content using a VPN:

  1. Subscribe to a VPN provider (NordVPN is my top recommendation).
  2. Download and install the VPN’s app(s) for your device(s).
  3. Start the app and connect to a Taiwanese server.
  4. Visit the Taiwanese site or service you’re interested in. (You may possibly need to delete cookies and clear your cache in your browser.)
  5. Enjoy your newly-enabled access to Taiwanese content and sites!

What Else Can a VPN Do For Me?

VPNs have many uses beyond opening up access to video streaming and other kinds of geo-blocked sites and services.

Perhaps the most useful aspect of a VPN is the fact that it coats your internet connection in a layer of encryption. This encryption prevents governments, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and hackers from monitoring or stealing your personal, financial or business information.

If you’re a fan of sitting in cafes and using public WiFi hotspots, you’ll appreciate this encryption even more. Public WiFi hotspots pose many security risks, as they’re usually unencrypted, leaving you open to hackers. But a VPN’s encryption protects your connection and makes it impossible for hackers to steal your credit card and other sensitive information.

If you’re a fan of file sharing, you’ll also appreciate this encryption, as it prevents your ISP from throttling or blocking your connection. ISPs don’t like file sharing and will try to interfere with your connection when you conduct it, but a VPN’s encryption prevents them from knowing what you’re up to, therefore preventing them from throttling you.

Can I Use a Free VPN Provider to Access Content in Taiwan?

I strongly advise against using a free VPN for any purpose, but especially not for getting an IP address from Taiwan.

One crucial thing to consider is that free VPNs server networks are often quite small. You’ll have to wait a while before even being allowed to connect, and then you’ll have few server options – if you’re given any option at all, and aren’t just automatically connected to a server of the provider’s choice.

It’s highly unlikely that you’ll find a VPN server in Taiwan to connect to.

That’s in addition to the connection speed throttling. Free VPNs want to save their bandwidth for their paying customers, so they’ll throttle yours to conserve it for them. Daily or monthly data caps are also staples of free VPN service providers.

Perhaps the most critical thing to remember is that free VPNs don’t care at all about your online privacy. They’re well known for tracking your online activities and selling the associated information to the highest bidder.

Some free VPNs will also insert unwanted ads and tracking cookies into their users’ browsing sessions.

Why bother wasting your time with a free VPN? NordVPN and Surfshark offer services that don’t include any of these problems, and they’re available at a budget-friendly price. You’re much better off choosing one of them instead of a free VPN.

Conclusion

If you’re intent on gaining access to Taiwanese content from outside of the country, choose one of the top VPN providers above. Of these, however, NordVPN is the best.

NordVPN is a reliable service that provides fast and well-protected connections. Its app support is superior and its customer support is around-the-clock. Your online security and privacy are always protected.

For more information or to purchase a subscription, visit the NordVPN website.

Taiwanese IP Address FAQs

Can I Access Chinese Websites From Taiwan With a VPN?

You need a VPN with servers in China in order to access the Chinese internet, and none of my recommended VPNs offer servers in China.

While there are VPNs out there that offer servers in China, I don’t recommend using them. The Chinese government loves to monitor its residents, and if it allows a VPN to have servers located there, chances are better than good that the VPN has agreed to share your online activity info with the government.

If you’re looking to stream Chinese TV shows or movies, try finding video streaming services in the U.S. that offer Chinese content. Netflix is a good example.

How Will I Know My IP Address Has Been Changed to Taiwan?

You can always visit the What Is My IP Address website to check what your IP address is. So, once you connect to a VPN server in Taiwan, check the website and see if it reflects a Taiwanese IP address.

If it doesn’t, you may need to contact your VPN’s customer support department to find out what the issue is.

What Online Streaming Channels Are Available From Taiwan?

Here are some online TV channels from Taiwan:

  • TTV
  • ETTV News
  • CTi Entertainment
  • HiChannel
  • FTV
  • NextTV
  • FOXSports Taiwan
  • TBSCTS

You can also watch Taiwanese TV in the U.S. by using Sling TV. Channels such as ETTV, TVBS, and FTV are available.
