At a Glance
Ukrainians who are traveling or living abroad may find a Ukrainian IP address quite useful from time to time. A Ukrainian IP address opens up access to users’ favorite Ukrainian films and TV shows, or access to their financial accounts back home.
Many streaming sites – including those found in Ukraine (Inter, ICTV, and others) – as well as financial websites, gaming sites, and other online sites and services, restrict access to their online content on a country-by-country basis.
In addition to lacking access to geo-blocked content in their home country and other countries, Ukrainians also face the same online perils as any user, including being monitored by their government or by hackers.
Can a VPN Get a Ukraine IP Address?
Luckily, there is a tool that you can use to access geo-blocked content, while also protecting your online activities from prying eyes. That tool is a Virtual Private Network (VPN).
When using a VPN, you connect to a VPN server that is located in the country of your choice. The VPN service then routes your internet connection through that country. This temporarily applies a new IP address to your device’s connection, making it appear to the rest of the internet that you’re connecting from that country.
This means that when you’re connected to a Ukraine VPN server, the rest of the internet sees you as connecting from there. This tricks geo-controlled resources into serving up their content and services that normally would not be available outside of that country.
When you’re connected through a VPN server, your internet connection is also encrypted. Encryption acts as a protective tunnel that hides your online activities from the rest of the world. This prevents you from being monitored and from having your connection throttled or blocked.
In this article, I’ll take a close look at the six top VPN service providers to offer access to a real Ukrainian IP address.

1. NordVPN
NordVPN won out over the other VPNs on this list thanks to the provider’s comprehensive services.
The provider boasts an impressive global server network, with 5,800+ servers based in 60+ countries around the globe, including Ukraine. The provider’s network provides reliable access to geo-blocked content worldwide.
NordVPN’s download speeds are plenty fast for streaming video, playing games, and any other of your favorite online activities. No data caps to worry about with this provider, either!
NordVPN’s online security is provided by government-grade AES 256-bit connection encryption, automatic kill switch protection, and IP/DNS leak protection. Ad and malware blocking features are also available. Plus, an obfuscated server option disguises your VPN activity to make it appear to be normal browser activity.
The provider never saves server logs and also accepts Bitcoin as a private payment option.
It also runs all server operations 100% from RAM, with no data of any kind being written to a physical hard drive. All data is completely erased from NordVPN servers each time they are rebooted.
NordVPN servers are self-owned and self-operated. This prevents third parties from having access to personal customer information.
NordVPN offers app options for most popular device platforms, including Android, iOS, Windows, Linux, macOS, Amazon Fire, and Android TV platforms. (The provider’s macOS app now natively supports M1/M2 Macs.) Chrome, Edge, and Firefox browser extensions are also available, as is comprehensive router support.
The provider’s SmartDNS service provides access to geo-blocked content on devices that cannot use the provider’s VPN apps, such as gaming consoles, smart TVs, and other set-top boxes. Keep in mind, though, that the SmartDNS service doesn’t encrypt your internet connection like the provider’s VPN does.
Up to six devices can connect at once to the provider’s servers using a single username. They also offer unlimited server switching so you can access different countries with ease.
Customer support is always available thanks to the provider’s 24/7 live chat feature. You can also contact customer support via email, while a searchable support library is always available.
Pros:

Surfshark currently boasts a global server network with 3,200+ servers available in 100+ countries, Ukraine included. The provider says it offers access to 30+ Netflix libraries around the globe.
Surfshark’s connection speeds are some of the fastest around and can easily handle streaming, online gaming, and file sharing without any issues. There are no data caps or bandwidth limitations to worry about here.

Native app support includes options for Android, iOS, macOS, Linux, Windows, Android TV, and Amazon Fire device platforms. (Surfshark’s recently updated macOS app now offers native support for Apple’s M1/M2 Mac lineup.) Chrome, Edge, and Firefox browser extensions are also available, along with extensive router support.

4. CyberGhost
CyberGhost is an excellent option for users with little to no experience with VPN apps, or those who just want to keep things simple.
CyberGhost’s global server network is one of the largest in the VPN industry, with more than 9,600 servers stationed in 90+ countries, Ukraine included. The provider has streaming- and downloading-optimized servers in many locations.
CyberGhost’s connection speeds are well above average, and they are easily up to handling all of your favorite online activities, especially streaming and file sharing. You’ll get unlimited bandwidth and data when you subscribe.

5. Private Internet Access
Private Internet Access (PIA) has a large global server network, with 3,300+ servers stationed in 84+ countries (including Ukraine), providing reliable access to IP addresses and geo-controlled content in Ukraine and most other regions of the globe.
PIA protects all of its customers’ connections with banking-grade encryption, a kill switch, and IP/DNS leak prevention. PIA can also block ads, trackers, malware, and malicious websites.
User tracking logs are never saved on PIA servers, so there is no way to access any information about your online adventures while protected by the VPN service. A Bitcoin payment option keeps your payment info undercover. Also, PIA has joined the ranks of VPN providers running their servers solely from RAM, meaning no data is ever written to a physical hard drive or SSD.
The provider’s native app offerings include options for Android, Android TV, iOS, macOS, Windows, and Linux devices. Meanwhile, Chrome, Opera, and Firefox extensions are also available. The provider is also compatible with select routers.
PIA now has an unlimited connections policy, meaning users can protect all of their internet-capable devices at once.
PIA’s connection speeds are far from being the fastest on this list. However, the provider’s connections can easily handle popular online activities. There are never any daily or monthly data caps and PIA never throttles your connection.
Live chat, a trouble ticket system, and a searchable support library are all available in your time of need.
Pros:
- Large global server network
- Protects against ads and online dangers
- App support for popular devices
Cons:
- Issues in some heavily-restrictive countries
- Some of the support info needs an update

6. PrivateVPN
PrivateVPN admittedly has the smallest global server network of any VPN provider on this list. However, it does offer comprehensive services and protective features that are comparable to its competitors.
While PrivateVPN has a mere 200+ servers, they’re spread (thinly) throughout 63+ countries, it does have a server based in Ukraine.
PrivateVPN’s connection speeds are the slowest on this list. That said, the provider’s connections provide an excellent experience while streaming video and gaming online. No bandwidth limitations or data caps to deal with here.
This provider’s connection protection features include government-level encryption and IPv6/DNS leak protections. A “Stealth VPN” option disguises your VPN internet activity as regular browsing traffic.
PrivateVPN servers save no logs of your online activities and it also accepts Bitcoin as a privacy-protecting subscription payment option.
PrivateVPN’s app support is a bit limited, with apps available only for macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android device platforms. While no browser extensions are available here, the provider is compatible with select WiFi routers.
Up to six devices can connect to the provider’s servers at once on one account.
PrivateVPN doesn’t have live support. Instead, it offers an inquiry interface that support tends to respond to within 30 minutes. There is also a “Contact Us” form and an FAQ section.
Pros:
- Servers in Ukraine
- Reliable online protection
- Advanced configuration options available
Cons:
- Small server network
- Limited app support
SMALL BUT MIGHTY SERVER NETWORKS:While PrivateVPN has a small global server network, it provides reliable access to the areas that it serves. The provider offers top-notch security features. However, the provider needs to improve its connection speeds, its server network, and its app support. A 30-day money-back guarantee is available.

Methodology for Assessing VPNs to Get a Ukraine IP Address
Ukrainian website filtering and blocking is mostly limited to Russian and separatist websites. However, Ukraine citizens living or traveling abroad will also appreciate a VPN’s ability to grab an IP address inside Ukrainian borders. There are several factors that you need to carefully consider before deciding on a VPN service provider for an IP address in Ukraine.
Below, you’ll find the factors that I considered when deciding on which VPNs were the best bet for reliably providing a Ukrainian IP address:
- Server network: A large global server network provides comprehensive access to geo-blocked content around the world. Plus, in this case, you’ll definitely want a VPN provider with servers based inside the country in question, which this time around is Ukraine.
- Connection speed: A faster internet connection makes your online activities more enjoyable. The VPNs that I include on my “best” list scored highly in my most recent connection speed testing.
- Value: You can easily calculate a VPN provider’s value by comparing its price of admission to the features and functionality it offers. Any VPN that I include on my list offers a top-notch value.
- Ease of use: Any VPN worth its salt should offer a selection of easy-to-use apps for popular device platforms. The VPN providers that I include on my list offer easy-to-use apps for most popular devices.
- Security and privacy: All VPNs worth your consideration should offer banking-level encryption, an automatic kill switch, and DNS/IP leak protection. A no-server-logs-ever policy is also a must.
- Streaming: Reliable access to popular streaming services is arguably one of the most important features for any VPN. The VPNs I include on my list offer reliable access to multiple streaming sites such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and others.
The list above doesn’t include all that I research when considering a VPN provider. These are just some of the features I research as part of my comprehensive VPN testing methodology.
This data-driven approach provides a better understanding of VPNs and the services they offer, allowing me to recommend only VPNs that are a good fit for my readers’ needs.
Why Are Websites and Services Geo-Blocked?
The streaming fans among you have likely found that your favorite online sources for TV shows and films may not be available when you’re traveling or living abroad.
This is because streaming services like Netflix and others sign contracts with television and movie producers that restrict streaming rights to the content to specific countries around the globe.
While this type of arrangement certainly is profitable for TV and movie studios, as it allows them to get paid over and over for their shows and films, it can be a bit of a pain in the butt when it prevents you from watching your favorite shows and movies.
You will also find that other types of sites and services (like financial services) back home are not available when you’re traveling in another region of the world. This is a security measure, as it helps prevent bad guys in another country from accessing a legitimate customer’s account.
A VPN helps you avoid geo-blockades like this by temporarily assigning a fresh IP address to your device, one that is located inside your home country (in this case, Ukraine). The new IP address fools everyone else on the internet, making them see your device as being located in that country.
How Is Online Content Geographically Blocked?
Websites and other online services can easily detect your connected device’s IP address. This allows the site or service to decide whether or not to let you access its content, as it can tell which country you are connecting from.
This is because an IP address uniquely identifies your device on the internet, much like your home’s postal address identifies it. This tells computers and other devices which device made a request for information and also lets the responding device know where to send the requested information.
Again just like your postal address, an IP address can also be used to identify a device’s geographical location.
It can do this because each country is assigned a set range of IP numbers for devices in that country to use. If a device’s IP address falls in the range assigned to a particular country, then the rest of the internet assumes that the device is located inside of that country.
So, for example, if a Ukrainian streaming service sees your device as having an IP address outside of Ukraine, it will block you from viewing its content.
How Can I Access Blocked Ukrainian Content From Overseas?
It is possible to access your favorite geo-blocked Ukrainian content, even when you’re outside of the country. You do so by using a Virtual Private Network (VPN).
As I previously explained, a VPN can temporarily assign a new IP address to your connected device. A server located inside of Ukraine will assign a Ukrainian IP address to your connected device. This makes it appear as if your device is connecting from inside that country, meaning you’ll gain access to geo-blocked content normally restricted to viewers in Ukraine.
Please note: You will need to have a subscription to any streaming services you wish to access or have a login for other blocked sites or services to gain access.
Simply follow the steps listed below:
- Subscribe to a VPN provider (NordVPN is the top pick this time around).
- Download and install the VPN’s app(s) on your device(s).
- Fire up the app and connect to a server located inside Ukraine.
- Visit the site or service you’re interested in. (Note: You may need to delete cookies and clear your cache in your browser to connect successfully.)
- Enjoy your new access to your favorite Ukraine content!
What Else Can a VPN Do For Me?
A Virtual Private Network offers protection and enhancement for all of your online activities.
A VPN’s encryption prevents hackers, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), and even your government from tracking you online. This comes in handy, whether you are at home or away.
Most of you have probably at one time or another used a public WiFi hotspot, many of which are not encrypted. This means that hackers can monitor your online activity, allowing them to steal your personal information. By using a VPN’s encrypted protection, you keep your online activities hidden.
A VPN also provides protection at home, preventing nosy types from monitoring your online travels. This also prevents your ISP from throttling or blocking your home internet connection because you’re engaging in “unapproved” activities, like streaming from certain services or file sharing.
Sadly, a VPN cannot help you with the data caps that many ISPs impose on their subscribers’ usage – data use is data use, even if it’s encrypted.
Can I Use a Free VPN Provider to Access Content in Ukraine?
Free is always an attractive price, isn’t it? However, “free” can sometimes cost you more in the long run.
Exhibit A: Free VPNs are inconvenient to use.
Some free VPNs will require you to cool your heels in a virtual waiting room before being given the okay to connect to their tiny global server networks.
Once you’re finally allowed to connect, you’ll either find that you have a limited number of countries to select from, or that you’re automatically connected to a server of the VPN provider’s choice. Keep in mind that a small global server network means you likely won’t have a Ukraine-based server to select.
Exhibit B: Free VPNs pose performance issues.
Once you successfully connect, your download speeds will likely be heavily throttled. You see, free VPNs like to preserve their available bandwidth for use by their paying customers.
Free VPN providers also restrict their free customers’ data usage by imposing daily or monthly data caps. Streaming video or music, or downloading and sharing files, means you’re going to bump up against that data cap in no time at all.
Exhibit C: Free VPNs threaten your privacy.
Even freebie VPN providers need to keep their servers humming, and many of them pay their bills by logging their users’ online activities, and then selling that information to advertisers and other nosy parties.
Some free VPNs have been caught inserting unwanted ads and tracking cookies into their users’ browsing sessions. And those tracking cookies keep tracking you online, even after you’ve disconnected from the VPN provider’s network.
Using a free VPN may be tempting, but it is not a good idea. Instead, take a look at NordVPN and Surfshark. They both offer their comprehensive services for a pittance, and you’ll be much safer opting for either of them.
Conclusion
Users who are looking for a taste of Ukrainian content are strongly advised to subscribe to a quality Virtual Private Network provider. The best VPN to obtain a Ukrainian IP address is NordVPN.
NordVPN delivers fast, reliable, and well-protected connections via a large global server network. Plus, its comprehensive app support, strong online security and privacy, and comprehensive customer support all add up to reliable online protection.
For more information or to purchase a subscription, visit the NordVPN website.
