At a Glance
It seems that streaming services like Amazon Prime Video have raised prices on a regular basis, especially during the last few years. This happens around the globe, and pricing can vary from country to country. For this article, I researched pricing in the countries where Amazon Prime Video is available and looked at each country’s library size, so I could determine a cost-per-title for each country.
Prime Video has increased its subscription prices in recent years, meaning the country that just a few years ago offered the best cost-per-title no longer does. Here, I’ll tell you about the countries that get the most bang for their buck when it comes to Amazon Prime Video content and discuss the countries that are forced to pay the highest price per title.
Please keep in mind: The prices used in this article are for the Prime Video option only and do not include the Prime delivery option. For example, in the US, you’ll pay $8.99 per month for the Prime Video Only membership and $14.99 per month for video and two-day free delivery. In this case, I would use the $8.99 per month figure. Also, the quoted prices are the base subscription fees as advertised by Amazon, they do not include taxes or fees that you may be required to pay in your area.
The pricing and library sizes for each country may be different from the numbers published here, as library sizes and subscription prices can change regularly.
Is Prime Video Good Value in Your Country?
When determining which countries benefit from the most cost-effective Amazon Prime Video subscription deals, I examined a number of factors. These include:
- The number of TV shows and films available in 80 select countries. I add the two totals together, then I divide that total into the total cost of a Prime Video subscription per month for each country.
- I then analyze the overall cost per month in each country, using the currency exchange rate at the time of publication.
After following the steps above, I determined that the number of titles available per country varies greatly, as does the overall cost per month for a Prime Video subscription, although to a lesser extent.
The country with the least number of available titles is Latvia, with 830 titles, while Ireland takes the top spot for the largest library, with 13,018. However, that large content library comes at a cost for the Irish, as they pay more for this massive library, £8.99 GBP ($10.91 USD), compared to Latvia’s going rate of €5.99 EUR ($6.29 USD). That said, when I determined Ireland’s cost per title, I found it is nine times lower than Latvia’s ($0.00084 compared to $0.00758).
As for the countries that enjoy more bang for the buck, thanks to super-cheap monthly subscription fees and above-average-sized content libraries, they are Nigeria, the Philippines, and South Africa. Filipinos get access to 6,210 titles, while Nigerians and South Africans can enjoy 8,935 and 9,453 respectively.
Subscription fees in these three countries are $3.00 (Nigeria), $2.63 (Philippines), and $4.09 (South Africa). This means they pay a quite budget-friendly $0.00034, $0.00042, and $0.00043 per title respectively.
New Zealand may be the fourth most cost-effective country, with a cost-per-title of $0.00047. The country has access to way more than average titles (10,038) and pays a reasonable subscription fee of $4.74 per month.
PRO TIP: It’s easy to watch Amazon Prime Video content from other countries or from your own country when traveling abroad by using a Virtual Private Network (VPN). Although not all VPNs will allow you to access Amazon Prime video from another country, there are several VPNs that can reliably do so. Read about the top VPNs for Amazon Prime Video here.
Does a Large Library Always Mean You’re Getting a Good Deal?
Nope. While Ireland, with its 13,018 titles, has the largest library of any Amazon Prime country, subscribers there pay more than average for their monthly subscriptions ($10.91 USD), putting their cost-per-title at $0.00084, ranking in at 19th place for cost-effectiveness.
Viewers in the US and the UK also pay quite a bit per title. While the UK and US libraries are the second (12,740 titles) and third-largest (12,150 titles) respectively, they also require monthly subscription fees of $10.91 and $8.99 per month. This makes the UK and the US the 21st and 14th most cost-effective countries for Prime.
Most Cost-Effective Countries for Amazon Prime Video
Nigeria ($0.00034), the Philippines ($0.00042), South Africa ($0.00043), and New Zealand (tied with Japan at $0.00047) make up the top five on the most cost-effective list for Amazon Prime Video. Cost-per-title for these five countries is anywhere from 129% to 146% cheaper than average.
Least Cost-Effective Countries for Amazon Prime Video
Now let’s take a look at the other end of the cost-effective spectrum, where viewers pay much more per title for their Netflix subscriptions. Each of the 10 countries on the below list pays an average cost of $6.29 per month and average library sizes of 1,400 or less. This means these countries are paying $0.00464 to $0.00758 per title, coming in at least double the overall average of $0.00215 per title.
The Cheapest Countries to Get Amazon Prime Video
Just because a country has the lowest Amazon Prime Video subscription rate, it doesn’t necessarily mean they are the best value. It also depends on the size of the country’s content library. A low subscription rate means nothing if there isn’t much content to enjoy.
For example, Egypt benefits from the cheapest asking price for Prime Video, with a cost of just EGP 29.00 (USD $0.95). However, with just 1,605 titles in the Egyptian Prime Video library. Egyptians pay $0.00059 per title.
Turkey is $0.50 more per month than Egypt, with a monthly subscription fee of $1.42 (TRY 39). Turkish viewers have access to a slightly smaller library size of 1,321, which means Turkish subscribers pay a cost per title of $0.00107, coming 36th in the cost-per-title rankings.
While Singapore ($2.18), Hungary ($2.44), and Poland ($2.51) fill out the top five cheapest list, all of those countries have libraries amounting to less than half the number of titles on average.
The Most Expensive Countries to Get Amazon Prime Video
Guernsey, the UK, Ireland, and Switzerland all cost more than $10 per month and all rank at the bottom of the pile. Viewers in the UK, Guernsey, and Ireland pay a monthly fee of $10.91. Viewers in Switzerland pay $10.90 per month, x11 Egypt’s monthly subscription price.
The US came in 7th place overall for the most expensive monthly subscription, paying a monthly fee of $8.99 for Prime Video alone (subscribers pay $14.99 to receive all Amazon Prime benefits, including free two-day delivery). Guernsey, the UK, and Ireland pay a $10.91 per month subscription fee for the complete Amazon Prime benefit package.
How Does Amazon Prime Video’s Cost-Per-Title Compare to Netflix?
Let’s take a look at how much select countries pay for both Amazon Prime Video and Netflix. Which streaming service offers the best bang for the buck and how much are you paying per title on either streaming service?
When I compared each country’s cost per title on both Amazon Prime Video and Netflix, I found out that while select countries enjoy value pricing on Prime Video, they don’t get as good a deal when it comes to Netflix.
For example, while Nigerians enjoy great value from Amazon Prime Video, the same is not true when it comes to Netflix. This is mostly due to the Nigerian Netflix library being quite a bit smaller than average.
On the other end of the spectrum, several European countries get the shaft when it comes to Prime Video. Countries including Latvia, Greece, Lithuania, Bulgaria, and Slovakia, all enjoy a well below cost-per-title for Netflix.
Meanwhile, countries like Egypt, India, Turkey, the Philippines, and Argentina enjoy good pricing per title across both platforms.
Which VPNs Provide Access to Amazon Prime Video?
If you’d like to save a few bucks by subscribing to Disney+ in a cheaper country, you will need to use a VPN. 7. PrivateVPN
PrivateVPN is admittedly lacking in both the global server network and connection speed columns. That said, the VPN provides reliable access to Amazon Prime Video in the countries it serves.
The provider’s 200+ servers spread among more than 60 countries is the smallest server network on this list. However, the provider’s network does a good job of providing access to geo-controlled content in those countries.
PrivateVPN’s download speeds are the slowest on this list. That said, those download speeds can easily handle Prime Video’s streams. No data caps or bandwidth throttling to worry about here.
The provider protects its users’ connections with banking-grade encryption, a kill switch, and IPv6 and DNS leak prevention to keep your online travels undercover. Meanwhile, a “Stealth VPN” feature helps keep your VPN hidden by disguising it as normal browser usage.
PrivateVPN also follows a strict no-user-logs policy, while accepting Bitcoin as a subscription payment option.

In Closing
Amazon Prime Video subscription prices can vary greatly from country to country. However, with a VPN subscription, you can subscribe to the service at a lower price. We should also keep in mind that just because a country’s Prime Video is cheaper, it doesn’t mean it’s good value.
Amazon Prime Video FAQs
Is Amazon Prime Video Available For Free?
While Amazon Prime Video does not have a free tier, if you have an Amazon Prime membership, you do get access to movies and TV shows as a part of your subscription. The service also offers new releases and several classic films and shows for rent or purchase.
You can take advantage of the 30-day free trial for a full-blown Amazon Prime membership. You’ll get 30 days to try all of the service’s features, including free Amazon Prime delivery of orders, discounts on select items, and access to the Amazon Prime Video library. If you decide Amazon Prime isn’t right for you, simply cancel your Prime subscription before the end of your trial to avoid being charged.
Do Any Free VPNs Work to Unblock Amazon Prime Video?
I have never found a free VPN that offers reliable access to Amazon Prime Video. Free VPNs do not have the resources available to maintain access to Amazon Prime Video when the streaming service blocks their IP addresses.
Plus, free VPNs as a rule do not provide fast enough connection speeds for a satisfactory streaming experience. Many free VPNs also place daily or monthly data caps on usage, which can be quickly used up when streaming HD and 4K video like the streamer offers.
Is It Legal to Use a VPN to Stream Amazon Prime Video From Abroad?
While it is legal to use a VPN to access Amazon Prime Video, it is against Amazon's terms of use, which state, "You may not use any technology or technique to obscure or disguise your location." This means that Amazon can block the IP address used by the VPN from accessing its content libraries. That’s why it is important to use a reliable VPN provider (like NordVPN) that will quickly set up fresh IP addresses to restore access to Prime Video.
