At a Glance
Just like everything else these days, the subscription rates for streaming services are increasing leaps and bounds, and this includes the popular Disney+ streaming service. However, are you aware that Disney+ subscription rates vary from country to country?
If you live in a country where Disney+ is expensive, there is a way to pay less. By changing your location and using an IP address in another country, you can pay less for your Disney+ subscription.
In this article, I’ll tell you which countries pay the most for Disney+ and which countries pay the least for their Mickey fix. I’ll also tell you how to use this information (and recommend a handy tool) to pay less for your Disney+ subscription (or I guess you could use the information to pay more if that’s how you roll).
What Is the Average Price of a Disney+ Subscription in 2025?
Disney+ is available in more than 110 countries around the globe. The average global price among these countries is $8.89 per month if you pay monthly or $7.20 per month if you pay annually.
Which Countries Have the Cheapest Disney+ Subscription Prices?
The subscription price for Disney+ can vary greatly from country to country. For example, the average US monthly subscription price is $7.99 per month if you watch ads and $13.99 per month for a no-ads experience.
Let’s compare that with the five cheapest countries around the globe. The prices used are for the cheapest available subscription option in each country.
Rank | Country | Monthly Price* | Monthly Price (USD Equivalent)* |
1 | Indonesia | Rp 39,000 | $2.40 |
2 | India | Rs 299 | $3.57 |
3 | Turkey | TRY 134.99 | $4.08 |
4 | Brazil | R$ 27.90 | $4.95 |
5 | Argentina | ARS 7,399 | $7.95 |
*All prices and conversions are as of July 2024, and are subject to change.
If you want to access a cheaper Disney+ subscription, you’ll need an IP address in another country. For a fresh IP address, you’ll need to use a Virtual Private Network (VPN). We’ll discuss more about that a bit later.
Keep in mind that while there are countries that have cheaper subscription rates, they may not have all of the content you usually enjoy from Disney+. So, let’s take a look at what to expect when subscribing to Disney+ in the cheapest countries.
1. Indonesia
Disney+ is known as Disney+ Hotstar in Indonesia. The service will only set you back $2.40 per month, making it an attractive streaming alternative to more expensive services, like Netflix and several other regional streaming platforms.
The platform’s user interface is familiar and it offers both Indonesian and English audio and subtitles.
Disney+ Hotstar accepts most global credit and debit cards, GoPay, OVO, and other local e-wallet payment options.
If you’re outside Indonesian borders, you’ll need to get an Indonesian IP address.
2. India
Disney+ is also known as Disney+ Hotstar in India. The going price for DIsney’s premium plan in India is a reasonable $3.57 per month. The streaming service boasts an impressive content library, which includes popular titles from the Disney film and television library, as well as a wide assortment of Indian movies, TV episodes, and sports content (including cricket).
All content soundtracks are available in English, as well as multiple Indian languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and others.
Disney+ Hotstar India accepts global credit and debit cards, net banking, UPI, and mobile wallets.
If you’re not inside Indian borders, you’ll need to get an Indian IP address.
3. Turkey
Disney+ is a downright bargain for viewers in Turkey, as it is currently priced at $4.08/month, which is quite appealing.
While the Turkish Disney+ library is impressive, it’s missing some titles that are offered in the US and the UK, due to content licensing restrictions. However, you’ll still be able to enjoy a good-sized selection of Disney and Marvel movies and shows, Star Wars content, and documentaries from National Geographic.
The familiar Disney+ user interface is present and accounted for, so you’ll have no problems navigating the menus. Plus, Turkish Disney+ offers content in both Turkish and English, plus subtitles in several other languages.
Disney+ accepts most major credit cards and debit cards, including Turkish payment methods like BKM Express and Papara.
If you’re outside of Turkey, you’ll want to learn how to get a Turkish IP address.
4. Brazil
Disney+ Brazil offers quite competitive pricing, charging $4.95 per month.
Most of the global Disney+ catalog is available for viewing, including films and shows from Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and National Geographic. However, some of your favorite content may be unavailable in Brazil, due to regional licensing agreements.
Disney+ Brazil content soundtracks are available in Portuguese and English.
The streamer accepts global credit/debit cards, PayPal, and local payment options, including Boleto Bancario.
If you’re somewhere outside of Brazilian borders, you’ll need to obtain a Brazilian IP address.
5. Argentina
Argentinian Disney fans will pay a monthly subscription fee of $7.95.
There will be no crying while navigating through the Disney+ app, as it offers a familiar interface, and provides content in Spanish with subtitles for English and several other languages.
Payment options include most globally accepted credit and debit cards, virtual cards, and Argentinian payment gateways.
If you’re outside of Argentina, you’ll need to get an Argentinian IP address.
Why are Disney+ Subscriptions So Much Cheaper in These Countries?
There are several factors contributing to the cheaper Disney+ plans in the above countries. These include:
- Currency exchange rates: Countries with currencies that are weak against the US dollar often have cheaper subscription prices.
- Economic conditions: As part of its efforts to expand its subscriber numbers, Disney+ lowers its pricing in countries with lower average incomes, making it easier financially to subscribe.
- Competing platforms: In some regions, such as India, Disney is faced with a saturated streaming market. That means Disney+ might keep prices low to lure users away from other streaming platforms.
- Growth: Disney+ offers introductory discounts in countries where they are working to grow their subscriber base. After an initial discount period, the price will likely increase. Think Black Friday discounts that offer three months of service for $2.00 per month, then increase to the standard subscription rates once three months have passed.
Which Countries Have the Most Expensive Disney+ Subscriptions?
While Disney does offer affordable subscription options in some countries, subscriptions can be priced much higher in other countries. The top 10 most expensive countries for Disney+ subscriptions are:
Country | Monthly Price* | Monthly Price (USD Equivalent)* |
Switzerland | CHF 12.90 | USD 14.37 |
Denmark | DKK 79 | USD 11.46 |
United Kingdom | GBP 7.99 | USD 10.24 |
Australia | AUD 13.99 | USD 9.43 |
Singapore | SGD 11.98 | USD 8.88 |
Canada | CAD 11.99 | USD 8.79 |
Sweden | SEK 89 | USD 8.44 |
Norway | NOK 89 | USD 8.33 |
United States | USD 7.99 | USD 7.99 |
New Zealand | NZD 12.99 | USD 7.89 |
*All prices and conversions are as of July 2024, and are subject to change.
Why Are Disney+ Subscriptions More Expensive in Some Countries?
There are several factors that can contribute to the higher prices in regions like the ones listed above:
- Currency exchange rates: If a country enjoys a stronger currency against the US dollar, it will generally be saddled with higher subscription costs.
- Higher cost of living: If a country has a higher cost of living, it will usually see increased prices for most goods and services, including streaming services.
- Licensing and distribution costs: The costs connected to the licensing of content and establishing a distribution network can vary from country to country, and this can directly affect the price of a streaming subscription.
- Local taxes and regulations: Some countries impose heavy taxes, fees, and surcharges on streaming services, causing higher prices.
- Premium pricing strategy: Disney+ and other services may adopt a premium pricing level in some countries. This allows them to position themselves as a premium streaming service, making them more attractive to audiences with a higher disposable income who must have “the best of everything.”
Which VPNs Provide Access to Disney+?
If you’d like to save a few bucks by subscribing to Disney+ in a cheaper country, you will need to use a VPN. Streaming services like Disney+ all check your IP address to determine your geographical location. Disney+ Pricing FAQs
Which Country Has the Cheapest Disney+ Subscription Rates?
Indonesia is the home of the cheapest Disney+ plan, which costs Rp 39,000 per month ($2.40). If you live outside of Indonesian borders but want to get that low subscription price, you’ll need to use a quality Virtual Private Network, like NordVPN.
It offers servers that will happily grant a fresh IP address, making it look like you’re connecting from inside of Indonesia. NordVPN also provides reliable access to Disney+ and several other streaming services, including Netflix, Amazon Prime, and several others.
How Do I Get Free Disney+?
Unfortunately, Disney+ doesn’t offer free trials or free plans. However, you can save some money by using a VPN to change your location to a country where Disney+ is available at a lower price. Indonesia and India are the cheapest countries in the world. Download a quality Disney+ VPN (like NordVPN) and connect to a server in either country before signing up for the streaming service.
Which Disney+ VPN is the Cheapest?
While you should never choose a VPN based on the lowest price, there is an excellent VPN that offers access to Disney+ and other streaming services, while providing fast, well-protected connections for all of your online activities.
Surfshark is a budget-priced VPN, with plans starting at $2.19 per month when you opt for a two-year subscription. The provider also offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can receive a refund if you find out the provider isn’t right for your needs.
In Closing
As we’ve seen, subscription prices for Disney+ can vary greatly from country-to-country. However, with a bit of research and a VPN subscription, you can subscribe to Disney+ at a lower price. This allows you to access Disney+ content with just a tiny bit of work on your part.
