VPN Not Working With FuboTV? Here Is How To Fix It (2024 Edition)

Does your VPN no longer provide reliable access to FuboTV? In this article, I’ll tell you how to fix the issue.

At a Glance

FuboTV is a sports-centric streaming service that streams news, network television series, movies, and sporting events from around the globe – all of the content you’d expect to see as you surf through a cable provider’s offerings.

The service was originally launched as a sports-only service, but eventually expanded to be a full-service streamer, offering most major networks.

Unfortunately, FuboTV is only available to subscribers in the United States, Canada and Spain. This means that if you’re a resident of one of the above countries and happen to be traveling internationally or are currently living abroad, you cannot enjoy the FuboTV subscription that you’re paying for.

However, not all is lost. There is a tool called a Virtual Private Network (VPN) that opens access to FuboTV and other geo-blocked streaming services, no matter where you’re located.

However, some VPN users have found that their VPN of choice is letting them down, and no longer providing access to FuboTV and other geo-blocked services.

While some lesser VPNs have given up on providing access to video streaming services like FuboTV, there is a provider that is still hanging in there.

Is Your VPN No Longer Working With FuboTV? Try This....

I strongly advise FuboTV viewers currently outside of the U.S., Canada and Spain to give NordVPN a close look.

In my thorough testing, NordVPN proved to be the best VPN for unblocking FuboTV, in addition to other streaming services. The provider boasts an impressive global server network, delivers speedy, no-data-cap connections, and offers excellent device support, making it an excellent choice for streaming video.

Why FuboTV Blocks VPN Providers

When the VPN and streaming industries were in their infancy, you could unblock streaming services by using most any VPN service.

However, the streamers soon got hip to the VPN trick and began actively blocking VPN-provided IP addresses from connecting to their content.

Keep in mind that streaming services do not block VPN users because they just want to be a pain in your butt. Instead, the contracts streamers sign with their content providers require them to limit viewing to designated areas of the world.

Otherwise, content providers (like film and TV show producers) can’t make more money by selling rights to show their content to other video streaming services in different parts of the globe. That’s why they restrict access only to certain regions.

How FuboTV Blocks VPN Users From Viewing Their Content

When you connect a device to a VPN server, the server temporarily assigns a new IP address to your device. That IP address is designated for use in the country where the server is located.

This allows you to be located in France, yet your IP address makes it look as if you’re connecting from somewhere in Texas in the U.S.

As a rule, when you connect to a VPN server and are assigned a fresh IP address, you are sharing that IP address with several other VPN customers.

A VPN acts much like your WiFi router, presenting a single IP address to the internet, while managing the requests and responses for the users connected to it.

While shared IP addresses have certain advantages, they also have certain disadvantages.

In the “pros” column, a shared IP address helps protect a user’s anonymity. A shared IP address prevents an online activity from being traced directly back to an individual user.

In the “cons” column, if a large number of users are connected to a particular site or service while sharing an IP address, the service may notice that and investigate. If the IP address in question proves to belong to a VPN service provider, the site or service will block that IP address from accessing their content.

When an IP address is blocked, users will find that they have lost access to the site or service (in this case, FuboTV).

At least some of those users may complain to their VPN’s support department. This will cause the VPN to investigate the problem. If they find that the IP address in question is being blocked, they will hopefully set up new servers providing fresh, unblocked IP addresses.

While this restores access to the streaming service, the fix may be temporary, as the streamer later may detect the new IP address belongs to VPN service, causing them to block the address, in turn causing the VPN service provider to create new IP addresses, which are eventually…Yeah, you get it.

This back-and-forth has caused some lesser VPN services to bow out of providing access to many streaming services. Luckily, there are still some VPN service providers that continue to fight the good fight.

Methodology for Assessing a VPN for FuboTV

You’ll find that not all VPNs provide reliable access to geo-blocked sites and services.

These are the VPN features I compared to determine which providers work best for reliable access to FuboTV:

  • Connection Speed: Viewers of HD and 4K content, like that provided by FuboTV and other streamers, will find that they need to find a VPN provider that delivers fast download speeds. You’ll also want to avoid VPNs with data caps or that throttle their users’ connections. NordVPN delivered some of the best speeds in my most recent connection tests.
  • Server Network: When streaming services detect that an IP address is supplied by a VPN service, they block that address from accessing their content. This means that the more VPN servers that are available, the better your chances that you’ll successfully be able to view your favorite shows and movies. Large numbers of servers also help prevent a heavy load being put on a single server, allowing all of the servers to provide better performance.
  • Value: You can determine a VPN’s value by comparing the features that it offers to the price that it asks. If a VPN asks for a high price, but it lacks features that other providers offer, drop that VPN from consideration. All of the providers I recommend in my articles (NordVPN in this case) offer excellent value.
  • Ease of Use: First-time VPN users will appreciate easy-to-use apps that are available for the devices that they own. NordVPN offers easy-to-use apps for most popular device platforms, as well as browser extensions and extensive router support.
  • Security and Privacy: Reliable VPNs will protect your online activities from being monitored or logged by nosy third parties. Connection protections should include banking-level encryption, a kill switch, and numerous other security and privacy protections. Bonus points are awarded for malware and virus protections, ad blocking, and other protections. The provider should never save any server logs recording your activities.
  • Streaming: Your VPN should offer reliable unblocking of geo-blocked streaming sites like FuboTV, Peacock, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and other sites. Any VPN that I recommend for streaming boasts top-notch content-unblocking abilities.

If you’re a FuboTV viewer who is traveling or living abroad, NordVPN is the recommended VPN for your viewing needs. In addition to FuboTV, NordVPN offers access to Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Amazon Prime Video and numerous other streaming services.

You can also check out a full review of NordVPN and read how we test VPN providers.

1. Connection Speeds

Most streaming services offer their shows and films in 1080p HD and 4K formats. Both formats require fast download speeds to prevent extended buffering of streams or waiting while your connection catches up in mid-stream. It is therefore important to find a VPN provider that provides fast, uncapped connections.

NordVPN delivers blazingly-fast download speeds, among the fastest I saw during recent testing. (Your experience will vary depending on your usual connection speeds.) The provider never imposes data caps or throttles your bandwidth.

2. Global Server Coverage

Sure, the main point of this article is how to restore your access to FuboTV. But, I’d be remiss if I neglected to mention all of the advantages a large global server network can offer.

A large global server network provides better access to geo-blocked content around the world. NordVPN currently has more than 5,300 servers based in close to 60 countries around the globe (including the U.S., Canada and Spain). This means you’ll have access to content housed in most countries.

3. Online Security & Privacy Protection

Whenever you’re using the internet, there is an excellent chance that your online travels are being monitored by the government, hackers and even your own Internet Service Provider. Guess what: You’re almost always connected to the internet.

This includes your mobile devices, gaming and streaming boxes, and even your refrigerator. This makes it extremely important that your VPN of choice provides top-notch online security and privacy.

NordVPN keeps your online activities undercover by using government-grade 256-bit AES encryption, a kill switch, and IP/DNS leak prevention. The provider also makes available its new, proprietary NordLynx connection protocol (based on the open-source WireGuard protocol), which is optimized for improved security and performance.

The provider’s top-notch privacy protections include a strict no-server-logs policy and an acceptance of Bitcoin in return for its reliable services.

To provide additional privacy protection, NordVPN is in the process of owning and operating all of its server farms, meaning third-party contractors will be kept away from its users’ personal information.

All of those servers run all operations directly from RAM, never writing any data to a physical hard disk. This means that all data is completely wiped from the server whenever it is rebooted.

4. Multi-Platform App Support

FuboTV is available on numerous device platforms, including computers, mobile devices, streaming and gaming boxes, smart TVs and more. This is why native app support is an important consideration when selecting a VPN provider.

NordVPN supports numerous connected devices, providing apps for the macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, Amazon Fire, Android TV and Android device platforms. Chrome and Firefox browser extensions are also available.

If you own a PlayStation (4 and 5), Xbox (One and Series S & Series X), Apple TV, Roku, smart TV or other device that can’t take advantage of a VPN app to access geo-blocked content, you can take advantage of NordVPN’s SmartDNS service. (Reminder: A smart DNS service does not protect your internet connection like a VPN does.)

Up to 6 devices can connect to NordVPN servers at once. The provider also offers excellent compatibility with multiple router makes and models. NordVPN-ready routers are available from FlashRouters.

5. Customer Support

Here’s hoping that you never have any issues with your VPN service. However, it’s a good possibility that you’ll need to contact your provider’s customer service agents from time to time.

NordVPN offers always-available customer support, including around-the-clock live support chat, email support and a searchable support library.

In my experience, NordVPN customer support agents reply quickly with knowledgeable answers. The provider’s support library also proved to be a reliable source of knowledge.

6. Pricing

NordVPN’s excellent services are made available at a reasonable price, making it an excellent value. The provider’s 2-year subscription option is a particularly good value.

A 30-day money-back guarantee makes trying NordVPN a no-risk proposition.

Conclusion

FuboTV viewers in search of a reliable way to continue to watch their favorite shows, films and sporting events while outside of FuboTV’s usual viewing area would do well to subscribe to NordVPN.

NordVPN’s large global server network provides reliable access to numerous streaming sites, FuboTV included. The provider’s fast, well-protected connections provide an enjoyable viewing experience while also offering top-notch online security and privacy. The provider also offers comprehensive app support and customer service.
